Met up with Captain Kenny and his mate Chip at 5:00 am and was warned about rough going out due to wind blowing 20-30 knots and waves around 5-7 ft. Proceeded anyway and about 2-1/2 hr to fishing ground, Chip the mate set up the lures and within 1 hour we got our first mahi mahi bite. Then towards the middle of the day, the rig got pulled and a huge King hook up. My brother was able to feel it in a 30lb king.

Overall it was great fishing with Captain Kenny and his mate. They are friendly and conversational. Wish the weather would have been better cause returning to port was brutal.

In June for a Tuna adventure.

Out on a full day off shore trip, Captain Dink knew where to take us. Mate, Brandon worked his butt off keeping our lines and bait in the water. Brandon was the hardest working mate I’ve seen on our last five trips out. I highly recommend booking your fishing trip with Carrisma charters.

Both Captain Ken and the First Mate Chip were incredible and highly recommended. The seas were roughly in the early going but they made it very comfy for us midwesterners to deal with. The boat is was large with comfy couches and super clean. Also the captain will let you sit up top in the wheel house and explain everything (including dumb Midwesterner questions lol). Ken and Chip work great as a team, and obviously knew what they were doing.  We even out-fished some boats from the tv show wicked tuna!!! (We saw some of the actual boats working out at sea). We caught our limit and were kicked back drinking beer on our way in by noon. Also at one point we drove through what felt like thousands of dolphins hunting in the Gulf Stream!!! They also had the hook up for all our needs once back to the marina. Can’t say enough their hard work, and how much fun and down to earth they were to just hang out with while on the boat. Would recommend for any time of year or fish you’re after!!!

Our family is on a belated spring break trip with our son who is graduating and a few of his friends.  Our family (wife and I plus sons who are 13 and 18 plus 12 year old daughter) did a 6 hour trip with Kenny and Randy. 

We had hoped to chase some bigger species like Amberjacks, etc. so knowing that heavy winds were rolling in Kenny raced out to a wreck early for us.  Unfortunately winds rolled in earlier than hoped so we didn’t stay there too long as things started to get choppy and we didn’t want to get sea sick. 

We instead made our way a little further inshore and found a big school of ribbon fish running.  We spent the rest of the day pulling in what ended up being 34 ribbon fish.  The fish were fun for the kids to reel in as they had a good amount of fight to them and Kenny and Randy kept us on top of them for several hours.

At the end of the trip we got them cleaned back at the marina ($0.50 per pound) and are planning to make fish tacos for a big party tonight.

In total, this was a great trip for the family.  The Carrisma is a really big boat that handles the chop really well.  The interior space is very comfortable with good air conditioning and couches large enough that all three kids ranging in height from 5 feet to 6’3” fell asleep on the way back in.  The upper area is also large so the whole group of us rode out to the original spot together up top with Kenny watching the sunrise.  Both Kenny and Randy were great with the kids.

When we make it back to OBX we will gladly go back out with them.
