Background
I've been around boats my entire life and love being out on the water. With that said, fishing is just another way to enjoy boating and also to watch folks having fun at the same time. I've been a volunteer for the US Coast Guard for 10 plus years and have held several maritime qualifications. This gave me many opportunities to be on the water with my fellow auxiliary volunteers and also to acquire sea time. I've had my Master Maritime Credentials since 2009 starting with a 50 GRT and upgraded currently to a 100 GRT. I've spent several years taking my friends out fishing and now I'm ready to start a new career where I can utilize my skills as a captain and a fisherman and put smiles on people's faces and fish in their bags.
Techniques
Here in southern California at the start of the fishing season in April-May, we normally target White Seabass, and assorted other species fishing them with live bait and plastic lures. As the season progresses in June-July, the Sand Bass spawning season starts. Whether fly lining or bottom fishing, it's hard to keep these fish off your hooks. August-September, we focus on the Tuna, Yellowtail and other exotic species, we target these fish by trolling and using our sonar and watching for bird activity on the water. We will also at times include kite fishing targeting the giant Bluefin that come through every year. Throughout the winter months until end of the season, we will target Rockfish which in my opinion are some great tasting fish, we will find bottom structures and either drift fish over it or anchor up on it.
