Captain Joey VanDyke has been fishing since he was just a little boy, his love for the water formed his full-time occupation of fishing for a living. He started his career fishing in 1985 mating on offshore boats and continued through the summers until he graduated college and turned it to full-time year-round fishing. He fishes the rivers and the salt waters and knows exactly where to go to find fish. He is a calm and patient person who loves taking kids out and teaching them about the fisheries and how to preserve them. Captain Joey prides himself in knowing and learning all about fish by studying their feeding habits, habitats, growth cycles, and life cycles.

5 Hour Trip – Weldon Striper (AM) on May 2, 2026 • 3 adults
Was rainy and unusually cold for first of May, and the river was low, but the captain continuously put us on fish. Caught plenty of stripers plus a few catfish and a spotted bass. Overall, was a fun outing in spite of the conditions.

Great 5 hour striped bass fishing trip with Captain Joey VanDyke
5 Hour Trip – Weldon Striper (AM) on May 11, 2025 • 1 adult
I really enjoyed my 5 hour striped bass fishing trip with Captain Joey VanDyke. We started the morning fishing live bait in the rapids which provided non-stop action. Since I was mainly focused on fly fishing, we then moved downstream a bit and had a great time catching stripers using clousers with a 10 weight and 350 grain sinking line. I really appreciated all of Captain Joey’s advice and knowledge about this fishery. He is very experienced and knowledgeable on tactics for catching these stripers on the fly rod, artificial lures and live bait. I would definitely recommend Captain Joey VanDyke and hope I will have a chance to fish with him again.

Captain Joey VanDyke was great. He was ready to go before we got there. He is familuar with the river and knows where the hot spots are. He was very patient with the kids and always ready to untangle a line. Always answered any questions they had. Hope to fish with captain Joey again.
