Fingeance Sportfishing is dedicated to Roanoke river fishing where the fish are plentiful and the nature is wild. This is where they will take you. Just because it's winter doesn't mean you can't warm yourself up on some great Striper and Shad fishing! The Catfishing is great too in the Roanoke, and it will fill your coolers up!
The charter is operated by Captain Joey VanDyke who is not your usual captain. With a 4-year college degree in Aquaculture and AG Science, and years of fishing experience under his belt, he will show you a great time on the water and teach you about the marine life.
You will be fishing aboard his 24' Carolina skiff performance fishing boat, powered by a 150 HP Honda engine, with a maximum cruising speed of 35 knots. This speedy boat is wide enough for 4 people who can all ride and fish in comfort. It contains the latest electronics being restored in 2015, and all the safety equipment you'll need.
Capt. Joey will take you fishing on the infamous Roanoke River for wintertime school-sized Stripers on light tackle. You can catch multiple numbers as they migrate up the Roanoke River to their traditional spawning grounds.
You can also do winter Shad fishing charters on fly rods and light tackle as they migrate up the local rivers to spawn, too. Other species in the river include Crappie, Yellow Perch and Catfish.

Could not have had a better experience considering the very low water levels. Caught a variety of fish and most importantly my grandson had a blast!

Great afternoon with Captain Joey on the river. He put us on the fish while other charters seemed to be struggling.
Was rainy and unusually cold for first of May, and the river was low, but the captain continuously put us on fish. Caught plenty of stripers plus a few catfish and a spotted bass. Overall, was a fun outing in spite of the conditions.

I really enjoyed my 5 hour striped bass fishing trip with Captain Joey VanDyke. We started the morning fishing live bait in the rapids which provided non-stop action. Since I was mainly focused on fly fishing, we then moved downstream a bit and had a great time catching stripers using clousers with a 10 weight and 350 grain sinking line. I really appreciated all of Captain Joey’s advice and knowledge about this fishery. He is very experienced and knowledgeable on tactics for catching these stripers on the fly rod, artificial lures and live bait. I would definitely recommend Captain Joey VanDyke and hope I will have a chance to fish with him again.

Captain Joey VanDyke was great. He was ready to go before we got there. He is familuar with the river and knows where the hot spots are. He was very patient with the kids and always ready to untangle a line. Always answered any questions they had. Hope to fish with captain Joey again.

Captain Joey VanDyke has been fishing since he was just a little boy, his love for the water formed his full-time occupation of fishing for a living. He started his career fishing in 1985 mating on offshore boats and continued through the summers until he graduated college and turned it to full-time year-round fishing. He fishes the rivers and the salt waters and knows exactly where to go to find fish. He is a calm and patient person who loves taking kids out and teaching them about the fisheries and how to preserve them. Captain Joey prides himself in knowing and learning all about fish by studying their feeding habits, habitats, growth cycles, and life cycles.
