- I have been fishing on Lake Erie since I was 7 years old with my dad, who also loved to fish the big lake; and have been a captain for more than 40 years, so needless to say I know the lake very well, we catch a lot of limits of Walleye and Perch, along with Smallmouth Bass. I start out every morning fishing trip by casting on the reefs for Walleyes with our own handmade worm harnesses, if this doesn't work we move out into the deeper water and try casting into schools of fish showing up on the electronics, and if that doesn't work we troll with spoons, harnesses or lures and that does work.
