We requested to fish for wahoo, and told them that we could go off as early as they needed…but when we arrived, Freddie told me that the wahoo were over two hours away and no bite after 8am. Maybe this is something specific to Cozumel, but I’ve caught dozens of wahoo at all hours of the day. Anyway, he convinced me to go snapper fishing on the reef. So, we start trolling ballyhoos at 9 knots and I asked him if we were trolling until we got to the reef, thinking we we going to drift and bottom fish at some point for snapper. He said no, that snapper would hit those bait at that speed. I looked around, we only had 5 trolling rods on the boat and realized that we were just taking a joy ride.  So for 6 hours, we trolled in 15-40 feet of water.  I knew within 5 minutes that all we were going to catch were barracuda.  And sure enough, that’s all we caught. Find a different boat if you’re looking for a real fishing experience. Otherwise, if you’re just looking for a nice captain, and a bit of a joy ride, this works. Freddie is nice enough, and they worked hard, and they’ll likely put you on barracudas as well…I just would have liked to get out deep to have a shot at some decent fish.
