Im sorry that you didnt like the trip. Let me address each issue that you had. The fact that you caught 1 bluefish as opposed to the 8 (in 15 minutes) that your 2 sons caught is something that could have been addresed by letting your sons know that you would like to have a turn. We catch bluefish as bait and not the focus of the trip. If you would have wanted to catch blue fish ..... going on the average that we had caught, we could have limited out early and been back with coolers of fish, but you paid for sharks.
As far as me letting the mate know what to do….each shark is different….depending on the size and nature. The instructions given to the mate were to insure hookup so that your sons would have a chance to fight the fish.
When we land a shark…the main concern we have is for the safety of our passangers. We first brought the shark in the boat to effectivly remove the hook. I then made the call to release the shark immediatly for 2 reasons. First being the safety of your teenaged sons. They had awkwardly not handled the rod with strength and I didnt feel that they could safely hold the shark without risking injury to only get a photo op. Second, is for the welfare if the shark. I will never risk harming the shark only to get a photo. Each landing is different. We usually are able to safely take pictures for clients. I made the call based on the reasons.
If you would like to come down to the pier and try and land a shark that size….I will happily take the picture as long as you make the safety call.
