I have been on the water from the time I was several months old. I grew up fishing all of the Lakes around DFW and southern Oklahoma with my dad. I currently live right next to Lake Lewisville and fish every moment I can get and love to share my knowledge of the lake and targeted species with clients. My 2nd trip as a guide was with a family of 4, their teenage son walked into my boat and saw that I was barefooted while going over a few rules and safety items on the boat, he looked at his family very excited and informed them that their captain was barefoot and insisted that meant they were going to catch a lot of fish on that particular day. From that moment Barefoot Guide Service was born.

I booked this fishing trip as an early birthday present for my daughter, and I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Jake, our boat captain, did an outstanding job from start to finish. Everything was organized and ready to go—rods, reels, bait, and everything else we needed. The boat was clean, well-kept, comfortable, and even the boat ride itself was a great part of the experience. And the fishing was incredible! We caught a ton of fish—white bass, hybrids, drum, and even largemouth bass. My daughter caught more fish than she ever imagined she would, and seeing the smile on her face the entire trip was something I’ll never forget. What made this trip especially meaningful is that my daughter is actually the one who got me back into fishing. When someone is really getting into fishing, having a great experience early on can set the foundation for a lifelong passion. This trip did exactly that for her. Between the excitement of fighting the fish, everything Jake taught us, and just being out there together, it absolutely solidified her love for fishing. Jake went above and beyond the entire time. At the end of the trip, he even cleaned and filleted our fish and had everything bagged up for us to take home. I truly can’t say enough good things about Jake and Barefoot Guide Services. This was more than just a successful fishing trip—it was an awesome father-daughter experience and a birthday memory we’ll have for a long time. And you can bet we will be going again in the future. If you’re looking for a knowledgeable, organized guide who provides a first-class experience, I highly recommend Jake and Barefoot Guide Services. We couldn’t be more thankful. Last, we were at our limit on hybrids in less than an hour, they were dam near jumping in the boat! And big ones too! Strongly recommend!

Winter Fishing Report – Hybrid Striper &

Winter fishing continues to be productive, with hybrid striped bass and white bass being caught consistently using dead-sticking techniques. As water temperatures remain cold, fish are holding deeper and staying close to bait, making slower presentations the key to success.
Most of the action is coming from deep water along channels, flats, and areas where shad are concentrated. Fish are often suspended or tight to the bottom, and electronics are essential for staying on active schools. The bite has been subtle, with many strikes showing up as light taps or slight pressure rather than aggressive hits.
Dead-sticking flukes has been the most effective approach. Letting the bait sit motionless in the strike zone has outperformed faster jigging, as fish are less willing to chase in cold water. Once hooked, hybrids in particular are putting up strong fights.
This winter pattern should remain consistent through the colder months, making it a great time to target numbers of white bass and quality hybrid stripers for anglers willing to slow down and fish methodically.

Hot Mornings, Even Hotter Evenings

The hybrid bite has been on fire lately — and it’s all about the live bait. Most mornings have kicked off fast, with big, hard-pulling hybrids crushing shad over humps and mid-lake structure. Once you find them, the action doesn’t take long to get chaotic — doubles, triples, bent rods, and happy clients.
The live-bait pattern has been steady through late morning, especially when we’ve got a little breeze and some current moving. Stay mobile and don’t be afraid to hop spot to spot — the fish are grouped tight, and when you find the right pile, it’s game on.
Then comes the best part of the day… that last hour before sunset. When the sun starts to drop, it’s time to put the bait away and pick up a rod with a lure. The hybrids have been pushing shallow onto flats chasing shad, and the evening lure bite has been fantastic. Swimbaits, topwaters, and small spoons have all been producing, especially when birds start to show you the way.
If you’ve been waiting for that fall hybrid bite — it’s here. Mornings are made for bait; evenings are made for artificials. It doesn’t get much better than this.

Every tactic has been working, swim baits, jigging bottom as well as live bait. These fish are pissed off and fighting hard.

Spring patterns have arrived!

We have been busy over the course of thelast week. There has been plenty pole bending and drag stripping to go around!
The hybrid bite has been phenomenal in the evenings and we have had sucess on live bait, jigging spoons as well as casting swim baits.
The next 2.5 months are some of the best fishing of the year and there can be times of chaos with every rod in the boat hooked up.
