I’m sorry your trip was not what you expected but feel the need to respond to clear up some mistruths in your review.
1. Boats catching nearby did not catch and release.  Any chinook must be catch and release at this time. Any coho retained must be hatchery marked with their adipose fin clipped.  Therefore if nearby boats were fortunate enough to land a hatchery marked coho then they indeed would not have to release it.  These are rules set out by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) and MUST be abided by all anglers.  According to our guide you and your sons caught many salmon, including chinook which must be released. 

2. At no point did you inquire about what was available to legally retain.  Had you asked we would have most definitely provided you that information. We have had many guests onboard who either want only a couple fish or some don’t even want to retain at all. They are there for the experience.  If there was no opportunity for retention at all I would have 100% advised you at the time of your booking.  I do it all the time. But for your charter there was opportunity for retention.  Hatchery coho, ling cod, halibut, pink salmon, and rockfish and pacific cod are all available catches right now. 

3. Snacks. Our guide did in fact offer snacks and drinks and pointed out where they could be found early in the charter. We only promise light snacks. I am not sure what you were expecting. Any suggestions you have are welcome. 

4. Catching your own fish.  Again. I am not sure what your expectation or past experience is with fishing charters.  It is quite standard for the guide to “set” the hook for guests.  It is at the guide’s discretion whether they wish to offer guests the opportunity to set their own hooks.  We do, on average, allow more guests to set their own hooks and even at times run their own gear if a guide feels they are experienced and competent enough than many other charters.  Our gear is very high end and very expensive so we are protective of it. I don’t think we can be faulted for that.

5. Not filleting your catch.  The rules are laid out by the DFO and therefore we are not allowed to fillet your catch.  If we do we will be fined. 

6. The lady at the dock was annoyed and only wanted your money.  That lady was myself and at no time was I annoyed, I did greet you all, and when your guide mentioned I was there to help with payment you seemed eager to be on your way so I made efficient work of collecting the balance owing.  I’m sorry you feel that your experience was different. 

7.  “The owner” refused to answer questions about future bookings.  Here I must really stand up for our company.  At NO time did you inquire with me about potential future bookings.  In fact it was quite the opposite.  When your son mentioned maybe booking again next year when chinook retention is open you very quickly said that would not be happening.  It was quite clear you were not happy with your day. 

We regret that your experience failed to live up to your expectations. Our company works very hard on the water to provide an outstanding fishing experience.  And seeing the majority of our reviews are positive I think we do a pretty good job overall.  I thank you for your feedback. I will most definitely note your suggestions. However I did feel the need to set some things right, hence the long winded reply.  Truthful feedback is always welcome.
