Ponce Inlet, United States
- Background
- I am a fourth-generation fisherman. My family has been fishing out of Ponce Inlet for more than 50 years. I started fishing with my father, grandfather, and older brother as a mate as a young man and have fishing ever since. I've also run boats to Mexico, Belize, Honduras, Grand Cayman Islands, and the Bahamas. I chose to follow the family tradition of deep-sea fishing because I love the adventure of being on the ocean and I also enjoy watching my customers experience the excitement of reeling in a great catch.
- Techniques
- We do both trolling and bottom fishing. If our customer is looking to catch a sailfish, mahi-mahi/dolphin, wahoo, king mackerel, spanish mackerel, tuna, bonita, barracuda or cobia, then we troll. If they prefer bottom fishing then we will be looking for grouper, snapper, amberjack, trigger fish or sea bass. We spend time fishing over natural reefs, artificial reefs and sunken vessels. We can travel any where from 1 mile to 50 miles out. We use a variety of baits, depending on what we are looking to catch. When trolling we use bonita strips, mullet strips, ballyhoo and artificial lures that I design myself. When bottom fishing we use squid, sardines, cut bait and live bait. To help us locate those sought after catches, we use the latest technology such as GPS and fish finder.
