This boat is a great value for the price and the right boat to take inexperienced fisherman on.  If you are more experienced, pay the money and go out farther and longer. Even though we didn’t catch any fish, we enjoyed the day seeing whales and watching the sun come up over the Bay of California.  Absolutely beautiful.

My son and I went fishing with captain Bernardo on a 6 hour trip. This is our second attempt to catch a Marlin, the other in Hawaii. You can buy a license across the street from a lady with a folding table for $20. Once aboard they asked us to pay another $20 for live bait which was handed to us just a few feet off the docks by a small boat with 3 local fisherman. We used just 1 of these for about 5 minutes. Small racketeering job. I believe. We caught a small dorado about 10 minutes into the trip and that was it. Another 5 hours and 50 minutes circling just off shore where all the other boats were. I paid for 6 over 4 hours because I thought we would go farther out and have a better chance. We trolled with 2 squid lures and the same 2 dead baitfish the entire time. At one point we had to stop because water was filling the boat. He got his bilge pump going but that didn’t work at first. He relocated one of the lines and it started moving the water out of the boat. During this time is when we switched to use one of the live baitfish we had bought. After getting the bilge working, we went back to the same old fishing around gorda1, the area there in the water. In Hawaii the captain allowed us to use lighter rods and catch yellowfin to use for live bait. This at least added some excitement and fun but this captain didn’t offer or appear to have the setups for that. Bernardo was nice but Cannot recommend.
