Full Day Trip • 2 adultsJust got done with a father-son first-time fly fishing day trip… could not ask for a better time!! Stephen was an awesome guide and teacher, truly went above and beyond (ask him about “Lost Cast Rock”), and was cheery and kind the entire way down. We got a ton of bites, and ended up catching more than our fair share for a random day on the river (seriously, we kept getting catches within five minutes of putting in new flys and had to pull over for release several times). I would highly recommend these guys, especially if you’re a first timer learning the ropes and wanting to catch some good ones out there. 5 stars, 11/10, whatever your scale. Thanks yall! -Tim and Spencer Dixon

Full Day Trip • 2 adultsOur trip ended up being on the Missouri River instead of the Madison per Stephen, the fishing guides recommendation. He told us Madison was muddy and the fishing was going much better on the Missouri. So we agreed to the change of plans and everything went great. Stephen was patient, very knowledgeable and an excellent guide. I caught the biggest rainbows I’ve ever caught on a fly rod and my buddy caught several nice rainbows as well. As a novice fly fishermen I learned some valuable lessons from Stephen which enabled me to land the big ones. Overall excellent experience! I would definitely book another trip through Knight River and would highly recommend them to anyone who wants a guided fly fish experience in Montana.

Full Day Trip • 2 adultsI planned a fishing trip for my dad’s birthday with River Knight Outfitters and we had a blast!! Fished a full day on the Missouri and a full day on the Blackfoot and we had an amazing time and caught some beautiful fish. Rick was a great guide! We caught our 1st rainbow trout within 30 seconds of fishing. He has extensive knowledge of the rivers and how to fish them and when you catch a fish, he gets just as excited about it as you do. Highly recommend booking with this outfitter.

Full Day Trip • 2 adultsOur guide was very kind which is why this is a hard review to write, but unfortunately, I did not have a good experience on this trip. The guide was great with my son, which was a joy to watch, and I am thankful for it. But there were two anglers in that boat, and he was not able to give instruction to the front and the back seat. I had to ask him a dozen times for guidance until I finally started doing my own thing. He kept saying “the back of the boat sucks”. I’ve been on dozens of float trips, and although the back definitely has its downfalls, that is no reason to withhold guidance, and ive always enjoyed the trip no matter. He would repeatedly say things like, “(my son’s name), throw in over there” knowing I could not see or know where “there” was. I don’t know if it was intentional, but whether he didn’t like me or just couldn’t instruct both seats, neither are really acceptable reasons to not guide on a “guided” float trip. In truth, after asking so many times for instruction, I felt invisible. It was the most frustrating trip I’ve ever been on. We’ve taken guided float and wade trips all over the country, and it’s never about how many fish you catch. My favorite trip we caught the smallest fish and only a few between the two of us, but the guide made us feel heard, he taught us what he knew about the river, and we became better anglers because of him. If I had known the trip would have been for 1 angler, I would have stayed home. I actually texted my husband to possibly pick me up at lunch. Granted, it was a windy, an extremely hot day and the fish turned off early, but none of those factors are controllable. The guides inaction was. Even after the worst float, I was kind, tipped him, and dropped over $800 for the two of us. There are two sides to every story, but as a customer, I felt robbed of my time, a Madison experience, and money.
