- Background
- I've been fishing since I could walk. I got into fishing Lake Superior fishing 20 years ago shore casting, then small boat trolling, then ice fishing, and finally into the bigger boat. I'm a total fishing addict.
- Techniques
- Trolling is what we do. Lake Superior is a large body of water with very little structure and so the fish move around a lot. We look for temperature variations to determine where fish are schooling, and we employ a number of techniques to target them. Spring is generally a surface bite, so we use high lines with big planer boards to cover a large swath as we troll. As the water warms throughout the summer and the fish retreat deeper, we start using other presentations. This generally means using downriggers, dipsey divers, and weighted line like leadcore, copper, and wire which allows us to cover more of the water column.
