Born in the Santa Cruz mountains, Captain John is a true Central Coast native. He moved to Cambria, California when he was 1 and started fishing out of Leffingwell Cove with his dad at the age of 9. By age 18, Captain John bought this first ocean boat and has been fishing off the Central Coast for over 30 years now. He's scuba certified and has experience in free diving for abalone in Northern California. Aside from being on the ocean, Captain John shares his passion for the outdoors with others by guiding pig and deer hunts. He's married, has two little girls, and his favorite species to target is Salmon.

Rockfishing with John Montegomery

This was a great trip. It almost didn't go because of the weather forecast, but Captain John was up for trying and the way it turned out we got a couple of hours in deep water before we had to go shallow. Nevertheless, John kept us on fish most of the trip. He was very accommodating and understanding as we had my grandson along who was on his first ocean boat and fishing trip. He encouraged Jaiden to try new experiences (holding fish) without any pressure or stigma. We landed 11 species of rockfish and learned a lot about the local methods, history and biology. Had the wind not come up I'm sure we would have limited in the first couple of hours. Highly recommend Central Coast Fishing Charters.
