We had a trip booked and Marty called the day before, letting us know the wind & waves were too much and he could still take us out but we may not catch much. We decided to reschedule to 2days later with hopes that the weather would calm down and are we glad it did!
We went on a 7am-10am trip and he asked what our goal was. We said to catch fish we could take home. So that’s what we did!
He took us to the perfect spot where we caught 13 sheepshead and 12 snapper (which we couldn’t keep). Then we went somewhere else and hooked 3 redfish.
We were so thankful for his honesty, instead of taking us on the initial trip where no doubt we would have all been sick and where we had a slim chance of catching anything, he chose to take the risk of us not being able to go over making money.
My only recommendations would be to prepare the guests with suggestions on what to wear for the boat & current weather. (Unless I missed this somewhere)
If you aren’t from the area, it’s hard to gauge what clothes or shoes to wear and what to expect with the wind, waves and water. We had sweatshirts but could have had another long sleeve shirt or jacket.
The boat was different than other boats we have fished from & had minimal to hold on to and to be comfortable riding the rough waves. It was ok for us and our 2 kids but would be crowded with any more!
We loved how knowledgeable Marty and his son were and how they let us do the fishing and showed us how. And they filleted everything for us!
Overall we were extremely happy with the trip and would absolutely recommend it!

Marty was beyond our expectations!  Personable, knowledgeable, and ready to serve!  He swapped stories, got us to a great spot, helped us bring in lots of sheepshead, fileted them for us, and told us the best way to cook them. We even had to catch and release at the end!  This was by far the best charter type experience we’ve ever had. 2 hours was the perfect length of time for our 6 year old son to stay engaged and not get bored. When we are back down this way again, we will definitely be reaching out to Marty for another trip. 5 stars - certified fresh! 😉

Learned a lot on our short trip.  First all oil rigs are not for oil…... these were for natural gas and were some good fishing spots due to the barnacles living all over the rigs pilings. the sheepshead we caught had the sharp short teeth for scraping off the barnacles and then chomping down on them.  We also caught red snapper but they were out of season and we had to throw them back. We also got pointers on cooking our catch which made for a delicious fish taco dinner. In conclusion the captain gave us some good information!!

We had a party of 6 guys ranging from 14 - 50 celebrating my son’s 21 birthday and recent engagement. Marty and his son were awesome and treated everyone great. They really knew what they were doing and we went home with plenty of Sheepshead and a pretty large red. I would highly recommend Marty and we will definitely be back next time we come into Fort Morgan.

My son and I went out with Marty and his son(deck hand).  Winds were strong waves were pretty good as well. But Captain Marty had us on fish on the first cast. Great way to get back into fishing after a winter break. It had been 6 months without a fish on for us. Great 1st time experience. Definitely looking forward to next year all ready. Thank you!!
