We had a great time on the four hour trip. Great boat that is covered and comfortable. We ended with 3 bushels of crabs and 25 lbs of shrimp. That is a lot of seafood to process! Steamed 4.5 pots of crab, picked crabs for three days. Remember these shrimp have heads. Think hours of cleaning and packaging.  We refused to waste anything! We would do it again, just need to be better prepared.  Items to bring with you to boat multiple coolers and crab baskets to transport seafood home. Items ready at home to cook and store seafood. Or just invite all your friends over for a seafood feast :).

I decided to take a near shore trip as my 11 year old son has never been on a boat. Captain Russell put us on the fish right away and Mate Mike made sure we had the right rigging to keep catching. My son had a great time catching bluefish and Spanish mackerel. Ms. Holly kept in touch with me on the days leading up to the trip to make sure we had everything we would need.  It was a great experience for us and literally all we had to do was show up and catch fish, Grandpa Charters took care of the rest. I am hoping to book an off shore trip soon, based on the success of the near shore trip.

Oh Boy—what an adventure! During a week of thunderstorms at OBX, Capt Russell kept a close eye on the weather before our crab and shrimping trip. I called his lovely fiancee, Holly, at 4am when it was POURING to make sure our 6am trip was still a go. He obviously knew his stuff because despite the storms, he did NOT cancel and I am SO glad he didn’t. It was a great trip! The boat is roomy and clean. The trip itself was cold and very wet—but we knew that going in so we came prepared. We brought our 5 and 6 year old who also had a blast! They loved throwing the small fish back into the water to “free them.” First Mate Mike was extremely professional working the nets but always stopped what he was doing if he found a new fish to show the kids. We even found a puffer fish which he blew up just for them to see and touch! For our four hour trip, we did 5 pulls and caught about 40 pounds of shrimp—and they were BIG! We boiled all the shrimp back at the beach house that evening for our family—about 27 people—and we had a TON leftover. We only caught about 10 crabs but I think crabs were a bit out of season at that point. So much fun. Great people.

Had a wonderful time.  My wife was limited in leg movement, the crew was first class in helping her aboard.  the ocean was a little choppy, but the ride was enjoyable.  only caught four albacore fish but they were nice size.  the captain and mate both commented that other boats were reporting slow fishing.  over all, I would do it again.  Russel Firth and his first mate and his son made the trip very enjoyable.

Best trip ever!!  Too many shrimp to count!!  AWESOME CAPTAIN AND FIRST MATE!!
