- Background
- I've been a professional mariner for over 30 years and a professional guide for over 20 years. I've always made my living working on the ocean. My background is commercial fishing and running tugboats. I am a licensed 150 Ton Unlimited Master and serve as captain on various large work boats when not guiding. In my free time I enjoying mountain biking, skiing, and surfing. One of the best parts of being a fishing guide, besides catching fish of course, are the people I get to meet and spend time with. People from all walks of life and from all over the world. It is truly an honour and a privilege to share my passion for the ocean and fishing with my guests.
- Techniques
- We specialize in trolling for Salmon and bottom fishing for Halibut. When trolling I run four downriggers and drag two fly rods with bucktails on the surface. I usually have gear near the bottom and often catch Halibut on the salmon gear. It can get very busy with multiple hook ups, some times all four downriggers at the same time. We drop the anchor when Halibut fishing, and let the fish come to us. Some days we can jig mid water for Salmon while Halibut fishing and get multiple hook ups of both species. I always like to set the crab traps on the way out and pull them at the end of the day on our way back to harbour. From around mid August to the end of October we head further off shore to chase Albacore Tuna. So powerful for their size and such beautiful and amazing fish to catch. This is one of my favourite things to do and one of the main reasons I bought my new boat the Victory.
