Since you are “quote” an avid fisherman you should understand a few things.
1 You were not in Michigan I’m sure they have their way of doing thing just as we do here.
2 It does look like it was a slow day we did however catch fish and as an avid fisherman I’m sure that you understand that is why it’s called fishing and not catching.
3 Just the fact that it was a half day trip limits the time you can spend moving to find fish you only wanted a half day trip that’s what you got so don’t complain about it.
4 I am sorry the trip didn’t meet your expectations.
5 As for getting your money back you never asked.

Well Dean I’ve held off even replying to this review because i’m not quite sure what to say i guess the only way to do this is answer each part of your complaint at a time.

First you booked a combination sightseeing /fishing trip NOT A FISHING TRIP in the narrative of the trip it says you will spend about six hours exploring the area and have a chance at spotting whales ,birds sea mammals. We did all of that the only thing we didn’t see were Orca’s. During our tour we stopped at two diffrent fishing areas and trolled for salmon 40 minutes at each spot the trip discription says you will get a taste of fishing not a fishing trip and it does not even imply that you will catch anything.

You are correct about me being concerned with sight seeing because it was a sight seeing trip not a fishing trip.

Two rods for 6 people that is how I troll normally 2 poles on down riggers .

As for licenses it is state law that anyone who is going to touch the fishing gear has to have a license it is also is state law that those licenses have to be recorded in the log book. It has nothing to do with keeping my federal permit and I don’t know where you came up with that idea.

The sightseeing I think was a little more than pretty good since we saw everything there is to see and had more than enough time for pictures . And lets keep in mind that you did book a sight seeing /fishing trip .

As for advertising if you read the trip description it is clear what this trip is meant to be the only fishing trip that is the same rate is a half day salmon trip the difference is the time the fishing trip is 4-5 hours and the sight seeing is 6 hours because it takes longer to travel the whole area rather than go straight to the fishing area and put down lines and fish. in other words the cost is the same but totally different trips.

To be fair you should also add in your review that I did explain to you exactly what we were going to do on this trip three different times within the first 15 minutes of the trip and you had the option to switch to a fishing trip but for what ever reason you choose not to.

To sum things up I believe you wanted a 6 hour fishing trip for the price of a 4 hour trip and your upset because that didn’t happen. Or you either didn’t read the trip description or you didn’t understand what you were reading in which case you should have had someone explain to you what you were buying although I tried that three times and you still didn’t get it.

You did get one thing right though THIS IS NOT A FISHING TRIP

Sorry you didn’t have a good day but let’s take a look at what really happened.
You booked a half day sightseeing seeing/fishing trip. So you are not going to get that much fishing time and the trip description tells you that. The extra time is for the sightseeing. We discussed that prior to leave the dock.
Your party consisted of your self two young children and an elderly gentleman who didn’t speak or understand English who you we’re going translate to but you didn’t do that.
When we started to fish we had the first salmon in 12 minutes unfortunately your 9 year old with the help of your father lost it at the side of the boat because they totally ignored what I was telling them to do.
About 10 minutes later your father hooked the second salmon which he lost also because you weren’t translating what I was telling him to do.
Shortly after that your 9 year old said he was getting sick and he wanted to go where it was calmer and you agreed even though I told you that the fish were out were it was a little rougher but we did go where it was calmer but no fish. I’m not quite sure how that was my fault you have to fish where the fish are and your kid didn’t want to and you agreed.
As for all the other boats coming in with an abundance of fish I’m not quite sure where you came up with that maybe the day before but not the day we went the weather the day was 40 knot winds and 14 foot sea on the outside of the bay the only reason we were able to go was we were on a half day and we’re able to fish inside the bay.
Lastly what ever kind of activity you are doing you shouldn’t let a nine year old call the shots.

Most six passenger boats don’t have deck hands and I’m not sure what the difference is if i baited your hook or a deck hand does as long as its baited? Im sorry you thought I was unpleasant if I discouraged halibut fishing it was because i had weather concerns just becuase other boats had wagons full halibut does not mean they had a nice day . Looking at the log book for that day it appears that everyone caughtt fish that day. Looking back on that day I believe the water where we needed to go halibut fishing was rough. I imagine had i taken you out there and you fell down and hurt yourself you would be a lot more disappointed
