We paid for an all-day guided fishing experience on the Mediterranean. At no point did we ever get into a position that provided fishing. He showed us several techniques (trolling, deep bottom fishing, and tuna fishing) but never let us do anything but watch & wait. Watching him do everything made the experience that much worse. Being involved may have offered some semblance of satisfaction as we could have walked away knowing we tried. This experience left us knowing he tried a lot of techniques that don’t work on the Mediterranean this time of year or where we were fishing. We certainly realize fishing isn’t catching, but when you pay a guide the money we did I’d expect we’d be on fish with an opportunity to catch them.

The captain stores the anchor in the live well at the center of the boat, so we had to get out of the way each time they dropped or retrieved the anchor. Just another element that seems like they should be far better configured to prevent the tangled mess from the box it’s stored in.

In the end, we would not recommend this charter or captain as an option. They couldn’t guide us to fish and constantly gave excuses, but never offered solutions. The reality is they use smoke and mirrors to distract and excuse the lack of activity. Their technique with blue tuna did nothing to prevent damage to the lines, decreasing our chances that much more for bringing the fish to the boat. The captain smokes which is another horrible part of the experience… we had to put up with the chain smoking and the small boat offered no where to get away from it.
