This was after his father spent 3 years in jail for political reasons against the Castro communist regime. Once in the U.S. as a teenager, the captain took multiple fishing trips to the Bahamas and the Florida Keys. He grew up fishing the freshwater canals in Miami and fishing the local saltwater piers.
