Fishing has been extremely good over the past week, and the redfish bite was stellar and then on early Friday morning we had a front move through bringing with it strong winds and rain, which muddied up East Bay and made for tougher than normal conditions for our trips on Saturday. Winds were Northeast at 14 to 27mph, with Blue Bird Skies and an incoming morning tide. We fished artificial and live bait trips this week, with the bite becoming more consistent on our evening trip with the weather beginning to stabilize. We fished back in the marsh to find better looking water and found several good, speckled trout, flounder, redfish, and black drum. We had our best trips in the late afternoon, when we had lots of water and an outgoing tide, with winds switching to the East/Southeast at 12-19mph. We fished ยผ oz jig heads and the purple reign color seemed to trigger some great action for us with either a slow retrieve or bouncing off the bottom. For our live bait fishers, we utilized shrimp under a popping cork, and a 24โ€ leader worked best. The Topwater Bite has been decent, but not on fire like last week. Most of our catching this week was on Flats in and close to drains, as well as flooded grass on the higher tides for redfish prowling for an easy meal. If you are looking to get out on the water and beat the crowds, now is the perfect time to make it happen, and as always, we will design a trip around your expectations, and guarantee you will have a great time fishing Galveston Bay.

Surface water temperatures are now in the low 70โ€™s, and water clarity is getting better by the day. We had a few days with North Winds, but for the most part we had winds from the East to Southeast most of the time, with gusts up to 20mph. We fished artificial and live bait trips this week, and depending upon the day and time, the bite was anywhere from finicky to jerk the rod out of your hand, so it made for some great times on East Galveston Bay. This week, we had our best trips in the late afternoon, when we had lots of water and a strong incoming tide. We had a couple of days where every spot we fished produced for us and resulted in some awesome catching for some great fishers. We fished ยผ oz jig heads and the Blue Moon color seemed to trigger some great action for us, as well as live shrimp under a popping cork. The Topwater Bite has been on fire for us the past few days, resulting in our bigger fish and some great action that helped make some great memories for our clients. Most of our catching this week was on Flats and in and around shell on the wind protected shorelines. We photographed and released all of our solid trout over 20โ€, as we desperately need to get our population of larger trout replenished as it was 10 years or so ago. If you are looking to get out on the water and beat the crowds, now is the perfect time to make it happen, and as always, we will design a trip around your expectations, and guarantee you will have a great time fishing Galveston Bay. This past Thursday evening we were on the water and the front blew in around 6pm, taking the winds from South to strong out of the North, and bringing with it some rain. It was a rough ride getting back to Stingaree, but we managed to make it back to the boat lift safely. The fishing was very consistent up and through Thursday evening, and the surface water temps were up in the 70โ€™s, and the fish were actively feeding. On Saturday, the fishing was much tougher for us with the North winds, and most of the water we found was muddied up and surface temps had dropped to 61 degrees. We fished live shrimp and artificials, and both performed about the same, as we battled the wind and cooler temps most of the day. By Sunday afternoon, the weather was beginning to level out and we were able to land some good trout, black drum and lost a couple of bull reds that got the best of us. We fished shorelines close to drains, with shell bottoms and those seemed to hold the most fish for us. Most fish came on the Blue Moon Down South with Chartreuse tail on ยผ oz heads, both with and without a popping cork, and shrimp performed as usual, catching a variety of fish. Mosquitos were not as bad this week, but the Gnats were brutal when we were fishing areas up in the marsh. We had our typical weather for this time of year, early in the week a front pushed thru, with strong North winds, pushing the water out of the bay and muddying up the water. As the week progressed the warming trend took place and the water cleaned up nicely, and made for some nice conditions to get on the fish. Surface water temperatures are now getting up in the low 70โ€™s and fishing is picking up, as we get into our Spring patterns. We were able to catch fish on live shrimp under a popping cork, with the leader being 18 to 24โ€. We have also done quite well fishing a 1/8 oz head and DownSouth tail under a popping cork and landed a number of Solid Trout, as well as black drum and a few nice Slot reds. On our artificial only trips, we have been using topwaters, and Jigheads with tails, and over the last couple of days the White Ice has been the winner, landing both solid trout and keeper size reds. Most of our fish came this week on an incoming tide, fishing drains, and the flats around the areas protected from the wind, where we could find good bait activity. If you are looking to get out on the water and beat the crowds, now is the perfect time to make it happen, and as always, we will design a trip around your expectations, and guarantee you will have a great time fishing Galveston Bay. We had some beautiful weather on the water this week, and the fish were cooperating on our early morning trips. We started out each morning with low tides and fished a strong incoming tide, which allowed us the opportunity to hit a number of different areas and presentations, and we were able to get on the bite rather quickly. Water temperatures were in the mid to upper 60โ€™s, and water clarity is getting better by the day. The winds have been kind as well, with directions ranging from North, to NW, SW, SE and South, but were able to fish areas that gave us the best protection. We fished only artificial trips this week, and depending upon the day and time, the bite was anywhere from finicky to jerk the rod out of your hand, so it made for some wonderful experiences on the bay. We had days where fishing a ยผ oz jig, bouncing off the bottom, was triggering the most bites, to times when a under a popping cork was getting the most action. Our biggest trout this week came under a popping cork, and magic grass in the super model was the winner from DownSouth. We fished a number of other tactics including top waters and suspending hard baits, but the Tails on jig heads were the overall winner. If you are looking to get out on the water and beat the crowds, now is the perfect time to make it happen, and as always, we will design a trip around your expectations, and guarantee you will have a great time fishing Galveston Bay.
