Member since October 2014 Stuart, United States
Background
Capt. Jeremy's grandfathers both loved to fish and they instilled a love for spending time outdoors in him when he was young. The captain was born in Dayton, OH and was 5 years old when his parents moved the family to Stuart, FL in 1981 from NJ. They lived three houses from the St. Lucie River on Pelican Dr. Captain Jeremy's oldest brother would take him down to the St. Lucie River to fish where he learned to catch Snapper and throw a cast net. The captain never stopped going down to the river after that. His mom would have to come to get him at dark and back then the neighbors would turn their dock lights on for you. Captain Jeremy remembers wishing and praying that he could swim and play in the river every day. His dream has come true! The captain has been operating a fishing guide service out of Stuart since 2010. He just loves for the rod to bend and enjoys teaching people how to fish while showing them the wonderful place he got to grow up in.
Techniques
Captain Jeremy loves to sight cast for fish with his fly rod and use live bait such as mullet and shrimp. Sometimes he can catch or buy other live bait such as pilchards, threadfin herring, bunker, and croaker to name a few. He also likes to use lures and artificials such as spoons, jigs, and soft plastics. Mostly, you and the captain will bottom fish under docks and around rock piles or bridge fenders. The captain also likes to fish around seawalls. First, fishing is dictated by the wind and tide. The wind may deter you from fishing an area because it is rough, so you'll seek out a calm place to fish. There is always such a place in the river. Second, moving water is critical. The fish likes its food to come to it and the tide is what does it. The water comes in the river twice a day. There are two high tides and two low tides. Fish likes to hide in or near structure, so you'll spend most of your time sending baits into the fish homes when the water is moving. This is usually very productive.
