Background
Fishing and guiding have been a family business for decades. Laura’s father was one of the first bass fishing guides on Lake Anna Va. Her father help found the Potomac River Bass Club. Laura was catching bass and running offshore chasing marlin and dauphin her whole childhood. Rex grew up helping out with the family waterfowl outfitting business in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, North Dakota and Maryland. Rex’s grandfather had him fishing as soon as he could hold a fishing rod and he has been fishing inshore and offshore as much as he can. Moving to Chesapeake Beach in 2013 made fishing the bay an almost daily addiction! We love to fly fish and light tackle fish for all the great fish the bay has to offer. Bottom fishing for the abundant spot and perch is always fun with the kids and folks looking for great fish to eat. Teaching a first-time angler or having an experienced fly caster on the bow, Rock On Charters will do it all . If you are and experienced angler looking for trophy rockfish, red fish, cobia, or just want to have fun doing catch and release or take some great Chesapeake Bay Spot, Crocker or Perch home Our team will work hard to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable day on the water.
Techniques
Fly fishing and light tackle are preferred, but when Spanish Mackerel and Bluefish get here, it is game on trolling spoons!

WINTER 2023-2024
Jan 1, 2024 Chesapeake Beach
Hello Rock On Charter Fishing Community, Get ready for the latest Rock On Report – your go-to source for all things fishing in Middle Bay! Winter Striper Fishing is Here! Snow, ice, freezing rain—less than ideal, but fear not! In just six weeks, March Trophy Striper fishing kicks off with better weather. March is prime time for those seeking a personal best with 40†plus rockfish. Birds are active, but utilizing electronics on contours and structures has proven to yield fantastic trophies. Remember, metal on or near the bottom is the key, and BIG BAITS like G-eye jigs (1oz and 1.5oz) with 7’-8’ Z-man plastics are your ticket to landing big fish. Flutter jigs and spoons are also delivering great results. Perch: Metal on the bottom is enticing the perch, with schools reaching a whopping 20’ thickness. Don’t miss out on this exciting action! Fly Fishing Opportunity: For fly fishing enthusiasts, Orvis Fly Fishing Schools are coming to Maryland! Fly School USA has partnered with Orvis to bring you the Orvis Chesapeake Bay Fly Fishing School in Chesapeake Beach MD. With 1- and 2-day classes covering everything from casting to equipment, it’s the perfect opportunity to hone your skills. Our experienced instructors are passionate about passing on their knowledge and helping you become a successful angler. We’ll help you to learn the latest fly-casting techniques and explore fly-fishing equipment, with a special focus on saltwater fishing. Classes are small, ensuring personalized instruction, and include hands-on sessions on various aspects of fly fishing, from casting techniques to knot tying. If freshwater is more your thing, many of these techniques can also help to improve your ability to catch freshwater fish. We combine classroom knowledge with hands-on instruction and video recording to help guide you. You will have hands-on instructions on: Fly-casting techniques – including the double-haul, plus video reviews of your casting. Rods, reels, lines, and fly selection – specific to saltwater fishing. Knots: Knot tying, and fly tying. Hook setting and fish fighting – with an emphasis on saltwater fish. Practice your skills with optional guided fishing on the famed Chesapeake Bay with Rock On Charters Trophy Striper Season in March Plan ahead! We have open dates in March for Trophy Striper season. ROCK ON FISHING REPORT

The Rock on Report Middle Bay Fishing. Rockfish breaking with BIRDS. Bluefish ..mixed in with the rockfish in the bird shows. Mackerel ..they are gone as far as we can tell.. Stripers AKA “Rockfish” They are on bunker and glass minnows. LOTS of bait in the bay currently and some good bird activity in the PM. We have not had much in the way of breaking fish on our morning trips. Still have fish shallow on structure and also 20 feet plus on structure ...Top water is good very early and last light. Perch Still here and some good ones hitting 4’ paddle tails in shallow water. Spot So BIG ones are still here and if you are live lining, the “rockfish candy” ones are also being caught. Water temps are coming down and they are moving back shallow. BLUEFISH are mixed in with the rockfish in the deeper water. G-EYE jig RAIN MINNOW 1oz PINK and Silver Sparkle working great. We are also using Z-Man 4’ diesel minnows and catching both rock and blues under birds. Speckled Trout. None this week but paddle tails work the best. Cobia and Redfish Some REDs are still around. LJ from G-EYE jigs says “Just small WOLF PACKS” here and there. We marked them yesterday but could not get them to bite. Have not seen any cobia in a few weeks. We do have some dates open and are going to start doing some walk-on trips. IT IS THE BEST TIME OF YEAR FOR STRIPERS If you are interested in a walk on trip PLEASE e-mail, call or text ASAP. If you love to fly fish or just want to get into it... We have a few spots open for our Sunday 10/22 FLY SCHOOL USA CLINIC.
