- Background
- I started fishing with my dad when I was 7 years old. During the fishing trip, he would put me in the helm seat and point to a landmark and tell me to steer for it. He would then handle all the lines. As I got older, I progressed into more of the role of the first mate. By the time I was 14, I was running the back of the boat taking care of all the fishing equipment. Besides working for my dad, I also mated for several captains on the dock. I took a break from fishing for a few years to serve my country in the US Navy. Once I was out, I continued my fishing career with my dad who owned and operated the Feathers. When I wasn't fishing, I was a career firefighter for Montgomery County MD. I retired at the rank of Master Firefighter. I bought my first charter boat in 1992. I am now on my fourth. She is a classic Chesapeake Bay Deadrise, built in 1958. I had the hull completely fiberglassed in early 2022. This is the first boat I am restoring since my father passed.
- Techniques
- I like all styles of fishing. So we will troll for the trophy Rockfish. We will also live-line with light tackle. So whatever is working at the time, it's the method we will use. Also, we use light tackle when bottom fishing for Spot, Perch, and Croaker. Trolling is the preferred method when fishing for Mackerel, Cobia. May through June I am located in Chesapeake Beach Md. May is primarily Rockfish only June Rockfish and bottom fishing for Spot and Perch. July 1st thru August 31st I am located in Solomons Island Maryland. July is Spanish Mackerel, Blue fish and bottom fishing for Spot, Perch and Croaker. Mostly Spot fish will be caught bottom fishing. August is Spanish Mackerel, Blue fish, Cobia and bottom fishing. September 1st thru the November I am back in Chesapeake Beach Md. September is Rockfish, Spanish Mackerel, and bottom fishing. October thru November is primarily all Rockfishing.
