Background
I've basically been fishing my entire life. I started out as a fresh water fisherman fishing rivers and lakes and then when I moved to Florida I began fishing the saltwater flats, reefs and wrecks. After a successful career in the business world I began exploring the idea of becoming a charter captain / guide and started the process of obtaining my US Coast Guard license to pursue my true passion for fishing. I've been a licensed captain for the past 10 years and I am a full time guide in the lower Florida Keys where I reside. In addition to my USCG license, I am a guide member of the Lower Keys Guides Association - a guide member of the Florida Coastal Conservation Association and an accredited captain of the International Game Fish Association. I am also fully insured to operate as a for hire charter/guide service. I also believe in giving back to our community so I do donate trips to the Wounder Warrior Foundation in order for our military personnel to relax at no charge to them.
Techniques
My preferred style of fishing is the back-country shallows, flats and near shore reefs and wrecks of the lower Florida Keys from Big Pine Key to Key West. The species I typically target depending on time of year and season is Tarpon-Bonefish-Permit-Sharks and Snappers. I prefer to fish live bait when possible but I am not opposed to fly and other techniques such as dead baiting and artificial lures. I have the option of using three different vessels depending on the type of fishing the client wants to do or the weather conditions permit: 16' Hewes Bonefisher with a 90 HP Yamaha 22' center console Panga with a 115 HP Evinrude 25' center console Mako with a 250 HP Suzuki

The trip out was awesome.  Captain Jim was a great guy.  Unfortunately…my girlfriend became very ill just after arriving at our destination.  Captain Jim tried very hard to help her, but was unable to.  Fishing trip was cut to 10 minutes or a little more.  Other than that…it was great.  I will be going back out with him in February.  Super great guy and very friendly.

Raymond,
I appreciate it, I’m sorry Annie was not feeling well that day. I’ll see you in February and we’ll have a better outing in the back-country rather than offshore.
Take care and I’ll see you soon!

What an incredible two days spent with Captain Jim. His knowledge and his experience lead us to the fish that we set out for the highlight for me was working an 8 foot 240 pound bull shark fought for over an hour the most incredible experience of my life with nature. I highly recommend Captain Jim. His equipment is superb and his crew was amazing.

My Cousin and I had an awesome experience with Captain Jimmy. The weather was iffy with high winds on our only day in town to fish. Capt Jimmy knew we had a small window to fish and wanted to get us out on the water. Thanks to his knowledge of the backcountry, he was able to find an area protected from the winds that was full of fish. We managed to catch six or eight different species of fish one after another in conditions that were not most favorable. We also managed to fit in a couple hours of shark fishing, bottom fishing for other species all the while. We had a 6-8 foot bull shark hooked up on light tackle in no time once the chum went to work. It was really a great experience. The best part for me is that Captain Jimmy lets you be as hands on as you want to be. You have the feel as if you are fishing with a good buddy, rather than a charter Captain. We had such a great time and were so busy catching fish, we never stopped to eat lunch…..now that is saying something for me! I already booked my trip for July looking to hook up a few tarpon!! CAN’T WAIT!

I’m retired Air Force and have fished my entire life. I’ve had charters all over the world. From the South Pacific, Carribbean, Atlantic, Pacific Northwest, Texas, Carolinas, Great Lakes, Florida, Europe and the Floida Keys, I’ve caught many thousand fish of many species. I booked Fin-a-key with Capt. Jim Loftus for Tarpon.  It was the Best charter I’ve ever had. I had 15 Tarpon hookups in 3 days and I missed 10 more. The fish included a 6 foot 140 pound and 7 foot 180 pound Tarpon. Oh by the way, I also caught grouper, shark, yellowtail and a half dozen other species. What was incredible is that we fished water that nobody else was fishing in peak season. We also fished with live bait that nobody else was using. I’m not going to tell you where we were or what we used, because I am already booked to go back twice next year.

Capt. Jim Loftus knows the keys and fishing with him was like fishing with an old friend. His knowledge, experience and advice was dead-on-balls everytime! He worked like crazy, ran down fish and knew exactly where to go and when to go everytime!  We fished out of immaculate, Skiffs, Panga’s and Mako’s.  His boats and equipment is the very best and he knows tackle better than anybody I’ve ever fished with!

Book this guy!  Solid, no BS fishing experience. Take your friends, family, kids!
