Background
Captain Vinnie operates the YB Normal out of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and has worked aboard other boats in the area all his life. He loves being out on the water and getting groups on awesome fish. His favorite fish to catch is Black Grouper, but a huge part of what makes fishing so fun for him is never knowing what is going to bite next. This is what makes bottom fishing so fun for him - you can never tell what will take your bait!
Techniques
Here in south Florida there are so many different species of fish to catch, some of my favorite things to do include trolling, wreck fishing, and live baiting. All three of these techniques are well known and do produce big fish and plenty of fish as well as different types of fish too. Trolling is a good way to start your day off beacause you are able to cover ground and find where the fish are, live baiting is a good way to fish for lots of trophy sized fish like sailfish and and giant king mackerel as well as big bull dolphin. Wreck fishing is a good way to switch it up if your other techniques are not working and still be able to land some large fish like amberjack and grouper, sometimes you can also have a surprise catch like cobia as well.

The Fish are Biting in Fort Lauderdale
The Fish are Biting in Fort Lauderdale
Nov 23, 2021 Fort Lauderdale
Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here a fantastic report I have for you guys this week the fishing in Fort Lauderdale has been outstanding and I can't wait to tell you about it. This week we have had a recent shift in some weather down here in the fort Lauderdale area some days heavy winds other days no wind, some days 50 degrees and others 75 degrees, either way seems to be the fishing are biting fairly well. This week starting offshore one of my favorite species to catch and eat is the wahoo which seem to be around somewhat daily depths from **hidden content** have been the best bet and fishing planners to take baits under the surface has been our most productive way some larger fish this week seemed to have moved in the wahoo are averaging around 20lbs but there are larger ones around as well. While offshore fishing Dolphin have been plentiful and I mean plentiful, we have been fishing surface baits for them like small rigged ballyhoo as well as a strip bait. This year has been one of the best years for dolphin in Fort Lauderdale I have seen in a long time some nicer sized mahi have moved in as well which always makes for great fun and a great dinner. A few tuna as well are being caught to in depths from **hidden content** fishing a vide variety of baits from surface lures to lies fished below the surface round 40 feet down. Kingfish and bonito have moved in to the reef and are biting fairly well, live bait has been working best for the kings right on the edge of the reef atom 90-120 feet with larger bonito mixed in. Bottom fishing has just began to pick up somewhat well lots of vermillion and lane snappers have been biting very well and nice sized as well. Fishing deeper structure anywhere from **hidden content** feet has been best and multiple baited hooks sent down with fresh cut bait has been the best a few small almaco jacks in the mix also. All in all this week the bite is hottt and I can't remember when there was such a variety of species biting just off the coast of Fort Lauderdale, anyway we should start to see winter time sail fishing in full effect so thats something to look forward to and very exciting. Make sure this week to check out some of our great photos of some recent catches while deep sea fishing. For the rest of November there is some availability so if you are coming down for the holidays and looking to do some fishing please check us out, also remember to follow us on social media platforms like facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfising for daily fishing videos and reports. Consistent Fishing In Fort Lauderdale
Consistent Fishing In Fort Lauderdale
Nov 14, 2021 Fort Lauderdale
Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, great report this week with some great catches in Fort Lauderdale so lets get to it. This week the fishing has been outstanding in the Fort Lauderdale area, starting offshore mahi mahi and tuna have been the primary target larger mahi have been swimming throughout the local waters right off the coast of Fort Lauderdale, earlier in the week we had a cold front come through that really made the bite hottt! Sailfish, tuna, and mahi have been chasing baitfish on the edge in around 100 out to 400 feet of water which is literally only 1 to 3 miles offshore. Most of the mahi we have been catching have been caught primarily trolling with seawitches and bonito strips as well as rigged ballyhoo. The average size has been around 12 to 15lbs with some bigger mixed in also. Catching live baits like ballyhoo on early morning trips is a great alternative to trolling and can open up a variety of other species as well like sailfish. While fishing offshore we still have had a great tuna bite. Blackfin and skipjack tuna have been biting quite regularly in depths of 200 to 500 feet of water, primarily on smaller baits like feathers. Moving inshore there has been plenty of smaller bonitos what we like to call "bullets" they make great live baits but also is something to pull on when the action is somewhat slow at times. Kingfish have moved in recently in great numbers and trolling for them with planers to take baits under the surface is the preferred method depths of 80-150 feet have been best as well as fishing shallow wrecks. Sailfish are here and biting as well bu the bite should get even better as we approach the holidays defiantly something to look forward to in the upcoming weeks. Plenty of fish biting this week so please check out our photos this week of some recent catches during our deep sea fishing charters. We have availability as well so if your coming to Fort Lauderdale and looking to do some deep sea fishing we would love to have you aboard. As always please be sure to follow us on social media platforms like facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing reports and videos. Tight lines everyone! more later... Capt. Cold Front Fishing In Fort Lauderdale
Cold Front Fishing In Fort Lauderdale
Nov 8, 2021 Fort Lauderdale
Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here. Winter time fishing is just begging here in Fort Lauderdale and thats what this weeks report is about so lets get started. This week in Fort Lauderdale we recently had a big time cold front that just came through and for us here the temperatures have been around 57 in the morning to a comfortable 68, now for us thats chilly but for. most people that come down to fish with us it is not. The fishing has been very good this week plenty of fish have been biting, the main fish this week again like last week is tuna, mostly skipjack tuna, skipjack tuna are very hard fighters and excellent table fare specially if your someone that likes sushi like myself its a great fish to eat this way. We have been catching them in depths of **hidden content** feet of water primarily on surface baits like small feathers and mylar seawitches. While fishing those depths there also has been quite a good amount of mahi mahi around as well now this is not season for these fish so there are not somewhat prevalent but there has been a few around and the ones we have been caching are very nice sized averaging anywhere from 10-12lbs same baits we are using for tuna are what we have been catching the mahi on also. Moving a little bit the king mackeral have recently showed up and have been biting pretty well, best depths for them have been 80-150 feet of water and our best baits this week for them have been seawitches with bonito strips and spoons fished on a planer to take the baits below the surface and into the strike zone. Also with the cold fronts one of the main fish that everyone is looking to catch is sailfish and they are starting to make an appearance right off the coast of Fort Lauderdale. When we have cold fronts it tends to make sailfish want to move and feed and they have been somewhat plentiful the last few days due to the cooler temperatures. Live bait has been the best thing to use to target the sailfish but trolled baits like ballyhoo and strips baits are a close 2nd. The sailfish have been showering baitfish all over and can sometimes be sight fished as well. The sailfish bite should start to get even better as we get closer towards December. Lots of different fish biting just off the coast of fort Lauderdale so if your looking to do some deep sea fishing now is a great time to do so. This week we have some great pictures of some recent deep sea fishing trips that took place just off the coast of Fort Lauderdale so be sure to check those out. We have some availability left for the month of November so if your looking to fish its a great time. Cooler Weather In Fort Lauderdale
Cooler Weather In Fort Lauderdale
Nov 1, 2021 Fort Lauderdale
Hello everyone Capt Vinnie here, this week I have a great report for the recent fishing that is going on right now in fort lauderdale. Recently in the Fort Lauderdale area the fishing we have been having has been outstanding as of late. Lots of action on our deep sea fishing trips, The offshore fishing has been very good with lots of black fin tuna being the steady catch on most fishing charters as of late. The tuna have been biting very well in depths of 200 to 500 feet of water pretty much eating smaller sized lures like feathers and small spoons. While fishing for tuna there has been some other things to catch as well like mahi mahi and a few wahoo. Blackfin tuna has been the primary tuna that we have been catching lately but skipjack tuna have been around as well, skipjack tuna are great eating and if you eat canned tuna they are labeled as chunk light tuna in a can, skipjack tuna are also some of the hardest fighting tuna around that we catch in fort Lauderdale. Mahi have been somewhat prevalent this week as well there has been some small weedlines offshore and they have been holding some very nice sized mahi all ranging in the size of around 15 pounds which is a great fish to fight as well as eat. There has been some mahi as well in shallow chasing baitfish but live bait is key for the mahi in shallow because they are focused in on the baitfish there chasing. Kingfish have been making an appearance here and there some days we catch a few and other days can't seem to find them, trolling planers to take baits deep in the water column with bonito strips and seawitches have been best, pink has been the hot color for them and depths from 80 feet to 150 feet have been best for them. The cooler temps that we are experiencing should have the sailfish on the move headed our way which is great news. This week we have some great photos of some recent catches aboard our deep sea fishing charters so be sure to check them out. If your heading down to the fort Lauderdale area and looking to do some deep sea fishing we would love to have you, we have availability and fishing is starting to heat up! Fishing Is Still Hot In Fort Lauderdale
Fishing Is Still Hot In Fort Lauderdale
Oct 22, 2021 Fort Lauderdale
Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie, this weeks report is right on pace with last week. The fishing in Fort Lauderdale Is still super Hot! Tons of offshore action, the offshore mahi mahi bite has been unreal pretty much as good as it can get, tons of very nice sized mahi we have been catching or plenty of them, as I stated last week you need at least 6 hours to get out to where they are but if you have the extra time and can do a full day of fishing 8 hours is best. Lots of floating debris just off the coast of Fort Lauderdale has been key, floating pieces of wood or even seaweed lines have been mahi havens. Trolling for them has been the best bet as of late seawitches and bonito strips or small feathers has been the best action, while locating floating objects putting out a planner with a spoon has been very ideal for any hungry wahoo in the area. On days where the mahi have been somewhat slow there has been plenty of tuna to take there place, blackfin and skipjack tuna have been the main culprits. Small baits fished on the surface at high speeds have been very productive depths from 200 to 600 feet have been best. Bottom fishing this week has been somewhat slow not the best but there has been some small vermillion snappers on deep water rock piles and ledges. The cooler temps that have been approaching should make for a great sailfish bite with in the next few weeks off the coast of fort Lauderdale, Be sure to check out our great photos this week of some recent catches right off the coast of Fort Lauderdale during our deep sea fishing charters. Remember to follow us on social media platforms like facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing videos and fishing reports. If you are planning a trip to Fort Lauderdale and looking to go deep sea fishing come check us out we have tons of different trips to get you out there and catch some fish.....Capt. Vinnie
Outstanding Fishing In Fort Lauderdale R
Outstanding Fishing In Fort Lauderdale R
Oct 14, 2021 Fort Lauderdale
Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here and just like the title sys the fishing has been outstanding this week, so lets get to the report. This week fishing offshore has been the ticket by offshore I mean 7 to 15 miles offshore the target species has been mahi mahi, some people know them as dolphin as well. A great fish to target, they jump, they fight hard and most important they taste very very good. The dolphin have been very plentiful this week just off the coast of Fort Lauderdale, but you have to go offshore like I stated earlier, meaning that a 4 hour trip or half day is not enough time, 6 to 8 hours will suffice just fine. The dolphin that we have been catching have been being located mostly on floating debris like seaweed although there has been few floating objects around as well like wood pallets and pieces of bamboo. The target depth has been around 900 feet of water. Surface baits have been the best bet such as seawitches and bonito strips as well as small feathers, while trolling down the weed line or if you find some kind of floating objects a planner is a good idea to put out incase there are feisty wahoo underneath, a small spoon works best. Also offshore there has been a fair amount of tuna, mostly skipjack but some blackfin as well. Most people are not familiar with skipjack tuna but majority of canned tuna fish is this, they are hard fighters and have beautiful colors. Moving inshore towards the reef there hasn't been much action some small bonito as well as a few kingfish and sailfish that are starting to show up. Bottom fishing has been somewhat tough this week but it should pick up shortly with the next cold front. This week there are some great photos of recent catches so be sure to check those out. If your thinking about coming down to fort Lauderdale to do some deep sea fishing now is a great time and not to mention the fish are biting. We have some availability for the month of October still so if your looking to go deep sea fishing we would love to have you.
