Background
Captain Vinnie operates the YB Normal out of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and has worked aboard other boats in the area all his life. He loves being out on the water and getting groups on awesome fish. His favorite fish to catch is Black Grouper, but a huge part of what makes fishing so fun for him is never knowing what is going to bite next. This is what makes bottom fishing so fun for him - you can never tell what will take your bait!
Techniques
Here in south Florida there are so many different species of fish to catch, some of my favorite things to do include trolling, wreck fishing, and live baiting. All three of these techniques are well known and do produce big fish and plenty of fish as well as different types of fish too. Trolling is a good way to start your day off beacause you are able to cover ground and find where the fish are, live baiting is a good way to fish for lots of trophy sized fish like sailfish and and giant king mackerel as well as big bull dolphin. Wreck fishing is a good way to switch it up if your other techniques are not working and still be able to land some large fish like amberjack and grouper, sometimes you can also have a surprise catch like cobia as well.

Fishy Thanksgiving
Fishy Thanksgiving
Nov 25, 2020 Fort Lauderdale
This week is thanksgiving and I would like to wish everyone and there families a happy thanksgiving from the YB Normal. This weeks report is a fishy one with lots of variety of species we have been catching. We have been doing quite a bit of trolling this week due to the winds and seas but even though it is a little choppy out there the fish are biting! Trolling the reef has had a very good kingfish bite right on the edge of the reef in 80-120 feet of water as well as some bonito and a few sailfish mixed in. The kingfish have been biting best on the troll with planers to take the bait down under the surface, fresh bonito strips have been key! Moving offshore there has been mahi in depths from 200-400 feet all nice sized fish as well most of the mahi we have been catching have been in the 10lb range with a few bigger ones mixed in. The mahi have been biting our surface lines best with fresh ballyhoo rigged, also offshore there has been some nice sized blackfin tuna around in the later afternoons finding birds feeding on the surface is key to catching the tuna small feathers fished far back behind the boat have been working best. We have some availability for the weekend and early next week so if your looking to go fishing now is the time the weather is looking great and the fish are biting!! Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, decent report this week although not many days to get out there and fish due to the weather but I do have a report and some nice photos, lets get right into it! This week has been a windy one and rainy with heavy North East winds and rain but we did have a few days we could get out and get some fishing in, there has been some very nice mahi mahi around chasing bait in the shallow part of the reef, averaging from 10-20lbs, we have a great photo this week of a beautiful bull mahi we caught on a live ballyhoo in 40 feet of water just off the coast of Fort Lauderdale. On the troll this week there has been kingfish biting in depths from 90-120 feet on seawitches and bonito strips as well as small spoons, also a few tuna out in the deeper waters as well. Sailfish should be in full force very shortly after this cold front that we have going on right now. We did do a little bit of wreck fishing this week with great success, we caught a very nice amber jack this week on a live bait fishing a ship wreck right off the coast of fort Lauderdale, there is also a nice photo as well, this week we did some deep jigging on a sunken ship wreck and caught a nice red grouper too. Night fishing report I do not have due to the wind and weather but I hope to have one soon the snappers should be biting. We have some availability this week and next so please come out fishing with us, its a great way to get out of the house and have some fun. Hello everyone, Capt. Vinnie here this week we have not had the best weather so I don't have that much to report but I do have some great photos from a trip that we were able to squeeze in this week, this deep sea fishing trip was a slow pitch jigging charter, slow pitch jigging is a type of jigging technique that is becoming very popular right now in America and it is definitely a fun way to fish, using strictly jigs no bait catching some excellent eating fish is what its all about, on this trip we caught some of the best eating fish in our waters off of fort Lauderdale, we started out fishing deep for some golden tilefish which we got our limit very shortly one of my favorite type of fish to catch they live in depths from 700-900 feet, also while out in the deep we caught a giant squid which is a very rare catch on a lure I was even amazed which doesn't happen as often as you may think. We continued to work the depth in search of grey tilefish which are a smaller cousin of the golden tilefish but in my option taste just as good. We would catch a few tuna along the way while fishing the depths and to end the day we would catch one of the rarest fish I think you can catch in the Fort Lauderdale are known as a yellowedge grouper, being a charter capt for many years I could count on one hand how many I have caught over the years, Also very delicious as well. The jigging trips are a cool way to catch fish out here and definitely another tool to our arsenal in order to produce fish. The weather this week is pretty bad as we have a tropical storm approaching for the next few days but seems it will calm down towards the middle of the week, we have availability this week so dont hesitate to miss out on some great fishing. Hot Fishing in Fort Lauderdale
Hot Fishing in Fort Lauderdale
Oct 26, 2020 Fort Lauderdale
Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here and man what a great report I have for you this week, just like the title says fishing is HOT!!! Lets get right into it, this week the wind has been a huge factor making for some not so calm sea conditions, the seas have been a somewhat bigger then average but for the month of October that is the type of weather that you want in order to have some excellent fishing!! There has been a very nice bite of mahi mahi this week in depths from 200-400 feet finding birds this time of year is key all the fish have been very nice sized too, All around 10-15lbs, we have been catching most of our mahi on surface baits like seawitches and bonito strips, this week the wahoo made a nice showing for us, as we caught 2 very nice fish in the 25lb range. the wahoo we caught were on planers fished under the surface with blue spoons as well as bonito strips and seawitches, also lets not forget there has been a few nice sized blackfin tuna still around we have been catching them on smaller lures fished on the surface trolled further behind the boat then normal. Last but not least lets not forget the sailfish, this is the time of year where they start to make a showing this week we had a great deep sea fishing charter catching 2/3 on sailfish in a morning trip as well as a few mahi and kingfish. The sailfish should make an even stronger showing as we receive our first cold front of the year. The fishing this week has been hot, great variety as well this week, I have some great photos as well so be sure to check those out also, Fort Lauderdale boat show is this week and we do have some availability this week so take advantage of the hot fishing right now, remember to like us on Facebook as well as follow us on instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing Tight lines Capt. Cooler Weather Approaching
Cooler Weather Approaching
Oct 16, 2020 Fort Lauderdale
Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie, we have a great report this week with a good mix of fish that we have ben catching, so lets get right into it! October in Fort Lauderdale is one of my favorite months to fish for mahi mahi or dolphin fish, anytime during this month when the wind blows out of an easterly direction for a few days that usually means mahi. Unlike summer time when you have to go far offshore in order to find these fish, in October you can find them as shallow as 80 feet right on the edge of the reef chasing live baits. We have been primarily catching our mahi in anywhere from 100-400 feet of water, surface baits have been the best way to catch these mahi, small baits with bonito strips or even small rigged ballyhoo have been working best to get the bites. The size of the mahi right now are very nice around 7-10lb average with some bigger ones mixed in, we also have been catching few blackfin tuna but they are on the smaller side right now, a few kingfish as well we have been catching on our planers down deep, and there has been a few sailfish around with some of the cooler weather that we have been having, the sailfish bite should become a lot better as the cooler weather approaches. I have a great yelllowtail snapper night time fishing report this week, the snapper bite at night time has been on fire and we have been limiting out on nice sized snappers anywhere from 15-20inch, fishing the deeper reef from 75-90 feet of water has been producing best for us. We have been using silversides as bait as well as small pieces of cut ballyhoo the night fishing should continue to stay very well as long as the weather is calm and there is current. I have some great pictures this week of some recent catches, busy week this week for us here but we do have some availability this week. Would love to have you, Like us on facebook and follow us on instagram @Ybnormalsportfising for daily fishing videos. More later... Capt. Vinnie
The Fish Are Biting
The Fish Are Biting
Oct 5, 2020 Fort Lauderdale
Capt. Vinnie here, this weeks report is great with some of the best eating fish that we catch here in Fort Lauderdale, lets start out with a good mahi mahi bite that has been going on as of late we recently had a nice catch of mahi as well as kingfish and some tuna to, we found a floating tree and casted some small lives baits towards it and was able to catch 7 nice mahi mahi, we have been catching some kingfish as well on the reef with planners as well as tuna. The tuna have been biting best using small squid skirt lures fished far behind the boat and have been averaging between the sizes of 6-10lbs. This week was a full moon so there is always a good chance to catch a wahoo and that we did. Wahoo is one of my favorite fish to catch and eat they have great colors and are great fighters, we catch most of these fish under the surface fishing planers with seawitches and bonito strips. On one of our trips this week we did a fair share of bottom fishing and we caught some beautiful snowy groupers as well as some golden tilefish and rosefish some of the best eatting from the bottom there is. This week we had some great fish that were caught as well as great customers as well which is always a recipe for success. We should see some more mahi approaching this month so be on the look out for those in the next few reports. I do finally have a night time report for you guys we were able to get out one time this week due to the weather conditions, we had a great night with 4 customers and we were able to limit out on snapper in under 2 hours, now thats a great bite, we did best fishing the deeper reefs in the Fort Lauderdale area, chumming heavy as well as fishing with small cut pieces of fish are the best way to catch yellowtail snapper quickly and like I always say night fishing is a great way to beat the heat. Great report this week check out our photos as well for day to day action follow us on instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing. Tight lines and more later... Capt. Vinnie
