    Succesful mixed species full day

Full Day Trip - Mixed Species2 adults

We booked a full day mixed species and we successfully caught 5 different fishes, including kingfish and snappers. Jason is an extremely skilled guide, always on the move in search of the right sport for the right fish and provided us high quality gear dedicated to each targeted fish. Lastly, in the months leading up to the fishing trip, there was always timely and detailed communication with the captain, an added value for someone like me who comes from far away. Highly recommended of you are looking for an amazing fishing experience!

    Perfekte Angeltour

    Half Day Trip (PM)4 adults

    Strikezone Rocks

    Half day trip2 adults

Jason went the extra mile by catching live bait overnight before our trip and doing everything possible to get us a great catch - and a super guy to boot. A very enjoyable morning on the water. I would book again without hesitation.

    Response from Captain

Amanda and her son Harry were a delight to have onboard. I was so disappointed that the fish were off the bite for them. Despite fishing through the night to secure livebaits for our trip the kingfish had there mouths firmly shut, after hours off fishing usually productive spots we called it one of those days. If you are ever up this way again Amanda be sure to be in contact, i will get Harry out for another crack at a heavily discounted rate. All the best. Capt Jason

Highly recommended fishing guide in Tairua

Full Day Trip - Kingfish2 adults

Jason (Strikezone) is a fantastic guide. This was our second time king fishing in Tairua and it was amazing. Beautiful fish, lots of action, incredible scenery, enjoyable conversations and a very comfy boat with good gear

    Reported catch:
    Yellowtail Amberjack
    Red Snapper
    Response from Captain

I loved having Margot and Paul back onboard after 6 years. Catching livwbait was hard qork and time consuming but it was well worth the effort as the kingfish were on fire landing multiple big fish and getting busted off on several others, very exciting fishing indeed! Hope to see Margot and Paul again soon..

Summer round up so far

Feb 21, 2026 • Tairua
Its been a summer of two halfs with lots of rain and wind but also some stunning days along with it. The fishing has been abit the same however id say overall its been tough going generally. Nothing has been consistent probably due to the increment weather and changeable sea conditions. Highlights over the last couple of months have included a stunning 50 kg Yellowfin Tuna caught by Guy Littlefair on a live jack mackerel set for a kingfish...what a surprise that was! Jori from Finland landed a beautiful 20 kg plus kingfish the other day to take out one of the bedt kingfish so far this summer. Snapper fishing has been very good and consistent bucking the trend so nothing really to complain about. There is still plenty left in this summer to go and traditionally the next few months are the best..

Biggest snapper we've seen for some time

Feb 21, 2026 • Tairua
Max and Lucy from the USA join3d us for a day on the water with the wish list being kingfish. Despite spending quite some time trying to catch livebaits they just weren't playing ball so the call was made to jig out on some of the deeper reefs. Despite Max and Lucys efforts the kingfish just weren't playing ball. We moved onto plan B where we would chase snapper around the islands with softbaits which also proved hard going until Max hooked a freight train that took a heap of line but with Max's skills he expertly played this huge snapper to the boat where oncevonboard we couldnt believe the size! A true trophy size snapper that saved the day for us on an otherwise hard days fishing. Well done Max you certainly caught one of the better snapper we have seen for quite some time..

Snapper on Fire!

Nov 8, 2025 • Tairua
8th November 2025.. this time of year is usually hard on the fishing front as we are bang in the middle of spring and summer, with algae blooms everywhere and cold water still around but this November so far is different with the offshore water clear and blue and teaming with hungry snapper! My crew of 3 heading out to the Aldermen Islands in search of the normally elusive November snapper and upon reaching the islands it was clear there was very little current and a breeze from the south which usually spells disaster on the fishing front. We moved around to afew different locations until we the slightedt bit of flow out the back of the boat but thats all we needed with the 1st baits getting snaffled up not long after hitting the water. The next few provided much of the same with solid fish coming aboard consistently throughout the morning. Everyone taking home a good feed with many, many nice fish released to fight another day...

The water is hotting up and so is the fi

Oct 7, 2025 • Tairua
Italian angler Libero and his wife Sonia booked us for a honeymoon fishing adventure and what a great day it was! The plan was to fish solely with lures so off we set with a full arsenal up in the rocket launcher. 1st drop onto a deep reef produced the biggest fish of the day, a 40 pnd kingfish smashing the jig on the first drop, another big fish hitting the jig afew drops later that pulled alot of line before pulling the hook. Next a sizable barracouta before we headed into some shallower ground where we caught multiple snapper, pink maomao and even a big squid. At days end we headed in with a thousand casts behind us and memories made for life..

Big kingfish in the 11th hour!!

Sep 25, 2025 • Tairua
Will Barnett from San Diego USA only had time for a short half day morning trip but his dream was to catch a 40-50 pound yellowtail kingfish. Bait was a little hard to catch but we manzged to secure about a dozen jack mackerel before hesding to a reef that holds some nice kingfish at times. Sure enough 1st bait in the water nails a nice little 15 pnd king that grts returned quickly back home. Next bait hooks a monster of a kingfish that steamrolls Will into the reef leaving us dussapointed but also excited. Next bait again hooks a large kingfish and as the fish comes into view a 400pnd bronze whaler shark comes out of the depths to engulf our kingfish before our eyes! Running low on baits and time we move to a spot 2 mins from the boat ramp and upon putting the bait in the water it immediately gets monstered by a yet unseen fish. Lucky we were still over a sandy bottom with no chance of getting reefed so after a battle of 15 mins the huge kingfish comes into view and what a monster it was! Making the decision to keep this one fish we hauled it aboard. The smile says it all! Well done Will!

Snapper moving inshore

Sep 22, 2025 • Tairua
Its that time of year when the Snapper start there migration to the spawning grounds and spring is a great opportunity to take advantage of there good numbers on the open ocean beaches. On a recent trip with an Aussie client we unfortunately had much windier weather than the forecast suggested making fishing tough but looking at the Simrad electronics there were certainly plenty of fish showing. We caught fish in the inclement conditions and left wondering how we would've gone had the conditions been in our favour!
