I have fished Enseñada several times now. Multiple captains have told me that the commercial fisherman jump on the yellowtails as soon as they show up so the surface fishing has dried up. I had hoped for some surface action. But,I was still happy with the quantity and quality of the fish we caught.

Parking and finding the boat was a little tricky, but they called us and gave us assistance. Caught lots of bonitos, nothing else, maybe just due to time of year. We also went in the afternoon, so not the best time. Fishing Captain was a little slow to respond to emails, but eventually was able to communicate with him and make the changes we needed. They had water and chips for snacks, so remember to bring your own cooler and beer :)

Dress Warm! It was chilly in the morning and with wind it’s colder. Dress appropriately!

Be prepared for ugly weather. Drinks lots of water and cover yourself from the sun. Take dramamine for sure.

You may not get the species you are targeting, depending on water temperatures. The pelagic species move to warmer water if a cold current comes in.

Watch the weather and water temperature if your target species is sensitive to either or both. The ambient air on the water is perfect. We wore shorts and 50 spf fishing shirts. Very comfortable.

Take a light sweater or jacket with you, as well as some medicine for seasickness, and a cooler to be able to keep your catch.

Make sure you have US dollars in cash to pay. They do not take cards. Expect to do bottom fishing and throw the iron for barracuda.

Fishing is fishing, weather is unpredictable. We had a great day. Our captain told us there were no Yellowtails caught the previous 3 days. Today we gambled and won.

Don’t go cheap! Pay attention to the season, when the target fish might be in the area. Fishing was a side trip, not our primary, but it was enjoyable on LuckyII!

Get out there early and dress appropriately. Sunscreen, hats, and pants, we also took something just in case seasickness might set in.

Don’t go in November, all the big fish have moved out. August would be a much better time.

Relax, let them handle everything. Tell them in advance what you want and need.
