All fishermen will have stories of the 'one that got away'. It seems very possible that it did, indeed, get away. What if the fish never got hooked in the first place. Well you cannot tell me that every charter that goes out catches fish every single time. As a customer that is something that you might not like to happen but as a crew of a fishing charter that is the worst thing that can happen. Think about that and enjoy the day on the water sharing wonderful stories and experiences. Then it turns out to be the best day ever, no mater what lies in the fish box....or not.

Florian and I had the pleasure of taking a group of friends on a regular morning fishing trip. They had such a great time that they wanted to do more. "How about fishing the FAD..?" Came the question. "Sure thing but there are big swells and you need to be prepared." Came the answer. As you can see they were rewarded with a lovely catch of Blackfin Tuna. On one drift of 13 minutes, 9 tuna landed on the boat and placed on ice to keep the quality nice and fresh. Big smiles as you can see and what a great bunch of friends.

Alarm ringing....it's 1.15am. Damm that is early, but I suppose if Flo and I are to catch some fish at the Fishing Aggregation Device (FAD) then we need to leave the dock by 2am. Coffee and rods in hand, fish cooler in the back of the truck and here we go. It takes about an hour from the dock to the FAD when we cruise at 20 knotts and that is a comfortable speed. This morning it was like a mill pond, flat calm and no ripple. The sky was amazing with stars twinkling in an out of cloud cover. Tuna was on almost from the start although we had to reset a few times. Then came a Wahoo on a jig....damm...impressive. Finally a family of Mahi Mahi passed us by so Flo threw out a surface lure and collect them all. Very happy with our efforts from this morning.

Fact, Its body is elongated and the back is an iridescent blue, while the sides are silvery with a pattern of irregular vertical blue bars. These colors fade rapidly at death. The mouth is large, and the teeth of the wahoo are razor sharp. Both the upper and lower jaws have a somewhat sharper appearance than those of king or Spanish mackerel. Wahoo tend to be solitary or occur in loose-knit groups or pack of two or three fish. Fact, we love targeting this particular fish. Trolling the coastline of Bonaire is a relaxing way to fish. It allows time to share stories and contemplate life's moments until the screaming of the reel wakens the crew and organized chaos takes on a whole new meaning. Flo and I look at eachother with understanding. I start to slow down Calypso and the fight is on. Reeling in with a steady motion is key to a successful catch. Keeping the rod in the holder for part of the way till the moment Flo feels it right to stand and continue the reel. Keeping the rod low and pointing towards the fish helps. At the last moment I begin to turn the boat and grab the gaff ready to land this beauty.

We consider ourselves to be very lucky here on Bonaire. Within minutes of leaving our dock space and the marina mouth, our lines can be in the crystal clear water with at least 180 feet as our coastline drops off really quickly. It was our pleasure to take these guys out on the hunt for tuna and as you see, big smiles were had by all. For their first time experience they will be back. Thanks guys.
