Fresh Private Yacht Destin Fishing Reports
Trigger Happy! First trip out in 2018
March 15, 2018
Our first trip of the season was a good one - with a limit of nice sized Trigger fish. Capt. Steve Morgan and mates Nathaniel and Derek headed out of the Destin Pass this morning aboard the Private Yacht Ramjack with Mr. Martinez and crew. The weather forecast was great - sunny sky and light winds. The guests were treated with freshly brewed coffee - a must on these cool spring mornings! First stop was to catch bait just outside the pass. Spanish sardines are targeted using the multi-hook Sabiki rigs. After a decent number were added the live well, together with the cut bonita Capt. Steve brought aboard, it was off to the fishing grounds. "Capt. Steve had us busy the whole time" reported Mr. Martinez. That is what I like to hear! Also, plenty Red Snapper were hooked but were all catch and release until the season open up Memorial Day weekend. Also, many smaller Trigger's were also caught and released as well. All in all it was a great day of fishing and plenty of fish to filet!

Little Anglers, Big Smiles!
October 12, 2017
Captains Steve and Jud did a morning trip and reported a King bite first thing in the morning. The King hit a live bait slow trolled behind a 6 oz cigar weight. The tide was pushing out pretty good. The next few hours were bottom fishing - catch and release Trigger Fishing and Red Snapper (both out of season today). Nevertheless it was a fun to battle these fighters up from the depth. We weighed the king 8.6# made the day board for day for Junior Angler. We also weighed a 3# Vermilion snapper.

Destin Snapper
August 6, 2017
Captain Steve Morgan and mate Nathaniel went west today with charter guests from Louisiana. They found some nice snapper in 80' of water with a steady bite. The bait of choice was live cigar minnows caught in the pass. The tackle used was 5' Fluorocarbon leader tied to smaller 6/0 circle hooks. We left them biting as the charter family was ready to get back to the dock. Destin is a wonderful place to fish with many different species to target. Todays mission was Snapper. Mission accomplished! Looking forward to getting back out there. Capt. Matt

Wahoo!
July 14, 2017
I had a couple of old friends on board this past Friday that wanted to try their luck finding the sometimes elusive Wahoo. So, Capt. Parker and I loaded up the Wahoo gear and went hunting. We trolled the area by the Ozark and the humps to the SE without a single bite. The water was nicer on the way out. We dodged a few thunder boomers then on the way back in came upon some super-clean blue/green water about 20 miles S of Destin. Luck struck! Picked up the first one on a Yozuri Bonita - about 25#s, circled back and got a second one - about 30#. Not huge, but really glad to have 2 in the box! Thank you Chris and David for going 2 for 2 on Wahoo!

Excellent day with Damon
July 9, 2017
What a beautiful day to fish, and seeing 10 year old Damon smiling ear to ear was priceless. We got a late start and had to work to catch bait. Our first spot produced 2 nice sized Kings. The next spot was loaded with Cobia! We caught 7 total. Released the ones less than 33" but each put up a great fight. We proceded to catch snapper, bonito, trigger fish, and even a Ramora (sucker fish) which young Damon demonstrated for us by allowing the Romora to stick to his stomach - look mom, no hands! Great day fishing in Destin.

Great day on water with Forbus Family
July 5, 2017
We started our trip at 6:30am. The weather was spectacular - sunny sky and light winds . After getting ice, we proceeded to catch bait. We did not have much luck so instead of wasting time I decided to catch bait to "new" fashion way - I radioed the bait boat and bought it! So with a $20 shot of cigar minnows (Spanish sardines) in our live we started fishing. We set out a king mackerel rig of slow trolling with planners just outside the Destin pass. One planner had a swimming plug behind a 25' leader, and there other a live cigar minnow. No love. We did pick up a bonito on a red and white cedar plug. So, off to stop 1. Trolled for 10 minutes, no love. Off to stop 2 - about 6 miles to the west. The spot was lit up. We continued to troll and chummed up with area with a handful of bait tossed overboard. Bam, got our first king - perfect eating size. Then, each pass we got a Bonito. After catching a few of these sporty fish, we decided to see what we could pick up off the bottom. There were swarms of trigger-fish everywhere, but I needed to avoid them as they are out of season until next year. We kept loosing bait - presumably the small triggers were robbing us blind. Unfortunately, the Porpoises found us and things shut down. So, off to spot #3. I ran out about 8 miles. Saw 5 boats fishing the area and no one catching. So, we headed back to the east to spot #4 which always produces. A boat was there and picked up just before we arrived. The sounder was showing very little bottom activity so we started slow trolling again. No love, so we picked up and headed in - we did get to run along the beach and see all the pretty water. The fishing was great, but the catching was a little slow. All in all a great day to be out of the water. Thank you to Donna, Jeff, Brooke, Garrett, and Jordan!
