Fresh Florida Fishing Reports

Hello there, Capt. Vinnie here back with another Fort Lauderdale sport fishing report. This week has been a little slow for us here in the deep sea fishing department, it's offseason right now and these hefty fuel prices are not helping for business either, but we were able to get out on a few trips this week and thats all thanks to our great customers that come to fish with us which we are very grateful and thankful for. Fishing this week has been some what tough, i hate to say it but thats what it is, we seem to be having what's called a cold water upwelling at the moment and the reason I can confirm that is because we have been having northern currents on the surface and southern currents on the bottom bringing that colder water from up north, also we have been experiencing a healthy amount of rain and that has made the inshore waters very green. In terms of fishing the trolling bite has been decent to say the best, blackfin tuna and bonito aka false albacores have been super prevalent early in the mornings in depths around 200 feet, majority of the action has been on the surface with smaller lures trying to imitate flying fish, the earlier the better right now if you can get out before the sun comes up even better, once the sun seems to get up the bite fades quickly. There has been some pretty nice sized tunas around as big as 15lbs but the false albacores have been on the smaller side. Bottom fishing this week has been the real winner with solid catches of larger vermillion and yellow eye snappers. We had some very good luck fishing some hard bottom in 270 feet with some quality fish to prove it, the month of September is one of the last months that the snappers spawn out of Fort Lauderdale and from fishing out here for so many years I knew exactly where to look. Last but not least way offshore the mahi mahi fishing has been great but an all day trip is absolutely necessary because of the distance they been offshore. The mahi have been on weed lines and birds, the most important thing is to be ready incase a school comes up when you hook up, having extra rods rigged for that and live bait is going to help maximize opportunities if you get that school of fish behind the boat, September and October are great months for mahi fishing in Fort Lauderdale so keep that in mind when planning your next trip. Spanish Bonita

September is a great transition month for us here in Pompano Beach! The first week of September can often start out a little slower, but as we move further into the month, we start seeing better opportunities for larger Mahi-Mahi. September also gives us a great opportunity to TARGET Wahoo, with a much better bite typically around the moon phase. We love targeting Wahoo this time of year. September also provides a good opportunity to TARGET Blackfin Tuna, often with a better bite in the late afternoons. As the season starts to change up north and the weather gets cooler, it starts pushing more bait and fish our way, giving us opportunities for a mixed bag. Pretty much caught everything

September and October are good times to fish in the Keys and Key West. All sizes of Tarpon are around and the Bonefishing is really good too! We are seeing some Permit on the flats and also Barracuda . This is my favorite time to fish because there is a lot less pressure on the water this time of year and the fish are happy .

The Redfish bite was awesome today and my crew did an awesome job putting them in the boat!
