Fresh Bay Of Islands Fishing Reports

On light tackle these hard fighting fish are what we all love to catch nows the time

Starting early in the morning to catch some live bait we hit the light spin gear for an hour or so then on to the bait and burly which was sure to bring on the bite. Not disappointed.

The weather is starting to swing around after a week of North Easterlies. Had a Kingfish trip on today and whilst it started slow after the bad weather we have been getting of late, the Kingfish started to bite for a while. We landed the first keeper and then got a couple of rat (smaller) Kingfish which where promptly returned back. We then moved to another spot where they where a good size. Over all the team had 4 good keepers, that was more than enough for a feed, and we threw back another 5 or so. We have a Snapper trip on tomorrow and space is available at this stage but filling fast. While the weather has been bad as stated, its starting to fine up and we have been managing to get a nice variety from Snapper, Trevelly and Terakihi and sometimes the odd Kingfish has jumped on with our Snapper trips. Kingfish are not targeted on the Snapper trips as Kingfish are a totally different set up and trip. Blue Sea Charters

After the big winds and a stormy weekend the fish are starting to return to the bay. The weather has stabilised and the water temperature is running a nice 23 degrees with nice seas. Had a sole charter with 5 Welsh guys who really enjoyed the day and got enough fish for them to share with their friends and family, after throwing a couple more back. Great work guys and its good to see that sustainable fishing is alive and well without us having to push it.
