Fresh Southold Fishing Reports

Took out the Janklow charter yesterday. We had a steady pick of fish the entire time, and the boys also managed a few nice keeper weakfish for the table.

Had a day off on the three day weekend, and I grabbed the chance to take my wife out for a day on the boat. She loved it. We caught some striped bass, she lost a nice one right at the boat ( it happens), and I had to put back one of the largest sea bass that I've ever caught (regulations). It was a great day, with plenty of action.

Had a great early season porgy trip this past Friday. We went out for a few hours before the rain started and managed to put together a decent porgy catch. We threw back at least three fish for every one kept.

We had another great week of fishing the Peconic Bays, even working through some tough weather. The week started great with some great weakfish catches, and some short fluke. We lost Thursday due to wind & rain, but Friday and Saturday were on fire with boat limits on weakfish both days. Saturday we had a heartbreaker when we lost a doormat fluke right at the boat - it happens! The boat was safely pulled from the water for Tropical Storm Henri, but we'll be back in action by late Monday ready for next weeks charters. This past Saturday, I took out the DeJesus family for a morning trip. While it started slow, we worked our way to a limit of weakfish along with a jumbo 25" fish! They also caught a mixed bag of porgies, sand sharks, and small black sea bass. A great morning was had, and a tasty bag of fillets was taken home for the grill.

What a week of fishing this week. The weakfish bite is hot right now. Most trips when the weather cooperates we are catching out limits of nice tide runner weakfish. Of course the other species are not disappointing - porgy's, blowfish, kingfish, and of course sand sharks round out the catches this week to make each day action packed on the water.
