Fresh Harding Fishing Reports

The Smallmouth and Catfish are on fire now. We are catching big Catfish along the seams generally in shallow water. The Smallmouth are also shallow and being caught on various baits. Give me a call if you want to get out for a memorable trip.

The first week of spring brought 60 degree air temps along with about 7” of snow so one thing is for sure late winter fishing has it all. I got to film a Smallmouth episode with Pa outdoor life that went pretty well we all caught Smallmouth and a few walleye. As of yesterday the water temp was 35 degrees so Fishing is a lot of slow don’t move the bait too much along with small size baits. We are all looking forward to warmer temperatures and sunny days. Winter may not be officially over but the weather is looking like the catfish will be hitting very soon. April is a fantastic time to get out and experience the best catfish bite of the year. The females are a pound or two heavier then in the summer so you will catch some real giants. The Susquehanna flow looks real good right now there is no snow to melt and result in a raise. If your looking to get out and catch some really big River Monsters now is the time to start thinking about booking a trip.

2018 was a very good big fish year, my Clients landed three bass over 5 pounds and five more over 4 pounds. Connor ended up winning a free trip for 2019 with a Susquehanna Largemouth that weighed 5 pounds 2 ounces. Jeremy ended up landing the biggest catfish that was 12 pounds 6 ounces winning him a free catfish trip for 2019. Mike was the Walleye champ for 2018 landing two that were over 8 pounds. Mike also landed the biggest Musky of 2018 that was 30 pounds and between 45 and 50 inches. My overall Smallmouth Numbers were down for this Year due to all the high water. For 2019 I will be offering trips on the main stem out of Fort Hunter and the North Branch out of the Falls Access will continue to be my home water. Thanks to all who fished with me in 2018. So far December has been a pretty good fishing month. The water levels are still up so any rain or snow melt makes fishing tough. we have caught over 200 Smallmouth mostly in the early part of the mont, last time I was out they slowed water was 33 degree. The Walleye are still biting and some of them have been very good size, several were in the 25 plus inch range. Most have been caught on KeitechUSA swimbaits and Rapala Jerkbaits. the watershed just received 1 to 3 inches of rain and it blew out the Susquehanna and Deleware rivers, the extended forecast looks good but who knows. Well the North Branch of the Susquehanna has dropped to a favorable lever for all fishing including Smallmouth, Walleye and Catfish. This past week two very large bass were caught one was a 22 inch Largemouth the other was a 21 inch Smallmouth, both were released unharmed. We have been catching Walleye at a good rate even during the daytime hours. Fishing for catfish continues to be good as us usually the case.
