Ft Lauderdale fishing report Marlin My D
Ft Lauderdale fishing report Marlin My D
February 22, 2023
As we move through February we continue to see similar trends as the last month also with the continuing recent trend of warmer days not typically experienced in February. We think of February as “cooler”in South Florida, many up the line think of it as downright cold. Well the “cooler” here on our fishing charters in FT. Lauderdale as of late most likely will feature a high into the 80s if not mid 80s. And dry, day after day. One very major rain event a couple of weeks back a memory and now you better be up early now to catch a glimpse of dew because it will quickly be gone. Summertime amounts of sunscreen and away we go. Most days have quite comfortable sea conditions but with the occasional choppy day that comes with every February. Some days the fish cooperate (especially the Tunas and Jacks), and other days they continue to rub our noses and everybody else's in the dirt. We have had some very nice fish if you follow us and we have had again the slim pickin days we try so hard to avoid. Sailfish catches over the weekend followed by a vanishing act. Searching one day wondering what you might have learned over 40+ years at this and then the Cadillac trip the next day with bending rods and reels humming. February fishing has always been all over the charts. Some of that cold, not cooler weather of February's past would be welcomed from a fisherman's perspective. Decent Tuna bite yesterday afternoon, here's hoping for two in a row. Enjoy the photos we are posting with this report of some of our recent anglers. Good fish out there, just not every day, and we are fishing every day and enjoying the hunt. Thick or thin we love what we do. See you on the rip.

Deep sea fishing Ft. Lauderdale fishing
Deep sea fishing Ft. Lauderdale fishing
February 15, 2023
Ft. Lauderdale has set new records for heat lately. Not ridiculously hot, just warmer than on record. Visitors in town lovin it, us not quite so much., but certainly not complaining. Breeze up last couple of days and with this latest breeze the fishing has Finally picked up . Notice the capital “F” in Finally, that is not a typo. We have caught some fine fish the past week and we have also mightily struggled on other days. Six hour charter Wednesday without a fish making it successfully to the boat. That was brutally tough fishing. Charter had been down that road before in their fishing history and were a great fun bunch. And Thankfully so. Another capital letter there mid sentence. So as I mentioned some catches with Sailfish, Wahoo, Kings, large Amberjacks, large and small Sharks throughout the week. But now this morning, grey and breezy, not the postcard perfect day. . Boats just got in. Couple of Sails, Giant Hammerhead, Nice Amberjacks taken off wrecks, a Genuine Red Snapper, Yelloweye Snapper. Boats off the dock now for the afternoon charter. Deep sea fishing in FT. Lauderdale or fishing anywhere sometimes comes down to you never know until you go. Enjoy the photos of some of the anglers who have joined us here, and we have fun here no matter if the fishing is good, bad or ugly. Or exceptional, as this morning. As the 1st captain I worked for here in Ft. Lauderdale over 40 years ago said to me (Bill Timms was his name, relocated here in FT. Lauderdale due to the cold winters on the Chesapeake Bay and Rehoboth Beach, Delaware). “You like what we;re doin here, fishin most every day?” My answer was “Yessir”, to which he replied “Good (he liked me)., remember there are good days and bad days, just some more memorable than others”, now get after it”. Capt Rick direct @ **hidden content**. No need to push the “chat” button, rings directly to me.

Fishing in Ft. Lauderdale mid January
Fishing in Ft. Lauderdale mid January
January 18, 2023
And just like that we are into the middle of January. This report of fishing in Ft. Lauderdale features all photos of kids. Little kids, big kids. All of them really good kids that chose to bring their parents along with them for their fishing charter in Ft. Lauderdale. Boys and girls of all sizes and fish of all sizes too. When children get older they as we all know can be a bit harder to please, where as to a child most every fish is Moby Dick. The weather has been as diverse as the ages of these recent angler children pictured with some pretty chilly mornings recently. Afternoons now back into the 70s and the ocean has been very family friendly with slight sea conditions. We have had some decent fish along the drop offs at the outside reef line and also some good bottom fish on the deep water wrecks, but the catching continues to be erratic. This is not all that unusual for this time of year, but January can be less of a challenge as we get more cooler to cold weather. We are doing a lot of moving around and trying different depths on many days to bend the rods and actually hoping for that cooler to cold weather. Remember this is south Florida and cooler to cold fits nicely in the 40 to 50 degree range. Fun in the sun. Tight lines, see you on the rip, and get those kids fishing. Love that 1st photo. In the chair, rod bent, hat on backwards with his new Marlin My Darlin T shirt on and a hooked Sailfish heading for the horizon. Making memories on that one.

It was very hot so dress appropriately. There is air conditioning in the cabin to cool off. Sunglasses, water, snacks, a hat that doesn’t fall off when the wind blows, and lots of sunscreen are necessary. We all wore long sleeve sun shirts.

I booked the charter for my 18 yo son and his 5 friends who were in Fort Lauderdale for their senior spring break. They had a blast on the boat. They were so thrilled with how they were treated. Everyone was so nice. They caught their limit of blackfin tuna and had a great dinner that night. Thank you!
