Deep Sea fishing Ft. Lauderdale / Pompan
Deep Sea fishing Ft. Lauderdale / Pompan
October 29, 2022
And there goes October in what seemed to be a “blink of the eye”. Always liked that phrase “blink of an eye”. Another oldie I like is “time flies”, and I think most of us, especially the older (experienced?) ones among us are familiar with them. So that said, here comes November. We like fishing in November . Frontal systems increase in number and we see the northerly winds that simply seem to light up the ocean and those fronts can light up the fishing as well. We will be focusing more so on water depths less than 500 feet which lies essentially within two miles of the shoreline, with lots of efforts focused inshore of that. Seems a bit peculiar to term this “deep sea fishing” here in the Ft. Lauderdale / Pompano Beach area when you are only offshore about two miles to attain 500 foot deep water. If you are into longer boat rides Daytona Beach offers that 500 foot water depth @ approximately 50 miles offshore. We had some fine fish throughout October but we also struggled on some days. We look forward to our fishing charters in Ft. Lauderdale and the Pompano Beach areas in November. A slight transition in weather patterns and increased opportunities to pursue the fish we love. We are so fortunate here in southeast Florida fishing every day as we were unscathed by Hurricane Ian that so devastated southwest Florida. Please enjoy the photos of some of the anglers who have joined us here aboard Marlin My Darlin.

Ft. Lauderdale / Pompano Beach fishin

Been a while since our last report and I apologize for the gap between our posts. My wife and I just got back in Ft. Lauderdale from a getaway to Maine. We enjoyed ourselves up there in the NE, fished some of course, enjoyed the amazing beauty and the never gets old changing of the leaves. Boats fished steadily and ran basically seamlessly. Captains Matt, Kenny and Tommy along with 1st Mates Joey, Andrew, Cameron and Matt hardly bugged me at all, actually asked why I can back so soon. Ha, “The Boys”. So very very fortunate that hurricane Ian spared us here in Southeast Florida, so sad the devastation just two short hours away by car over on the gulf side of the state and we were virtually unscathed. We have had some nice fish since the last fishing report. As always a lump or two in the road at times but overall this report as the last one is positive. Kings, Sailfish, Mahi-Mahi, some Wahoo, Jacks and snappers and some very large Barracudas and sharks. The great Bonito (False Albacore) run has as expected tapered off but some good Blackfin Tunas around. Posted one this morning on Facebook and Instagram that was north of 25 pushing 30#. Sailfish again today as yesterday and some Mahi-Mahi back in the picture also today. Please bring the kids (and Grandkids as today) and reach me direct with questions and all reservations @ **hidden content**. Enjoy the photos of some of our anglers that have joined us aboard our Marlin My Darlin 46 & 53' Hatteras boats for a fishing trip in Ft. Lauderdale.

Action along the reefs edges
Action along the reefs edges

Spending time alongside and up upon the edges of the deeper reefs is often a choice that results in a good number of bites from various species when on a fishing charter in Fort Lauderdale and also other areas along the Gold Coast as well. Reefs and structure hold bait fish and that in turn attract larger predatory fish and as many a fisherman is aware. This has always been fact, and always will be. In attempting to draw a maximum amount of bites these areas can hold numerous species of fish. Working down the reef lines in expanded oblong circles allows coverage of both sides of the reef and also across the top of the reef line. Deeply fished lines , one long and one not quite as long, shine here. Always turning to the longer line side allows bait to vary depths and speed in those turns, drawing bites without ever touching the reel's gear to “drop' a bait deeper unless you choose to do just that to really sink the bait. Coming out of a turn also accelerates and raises the bait in the water column. Also turning in the same direction toward the deeper line keeps those lines clear of one another. So when one sees a boat going in circles don't assume the operator to necessarily be under the influence, but more likely to be working an area such as a reef or structure or attempting to stay on top of a school of fish. So we ourselves chose right as opposed to NASCAR left. Enjoy the photos of some of our anglers. A lot of these fish ( with the exception of the bottom fish taken by position fishin) bit in the midst of those turning right circles at those mentioned reef lines. Tight lines, good fishin, get the kids out there on the water.

Fishing Report/ Fishing charters in Ft.
Fishing Report/ Fishing charters in Ft.
September 12, 2022
We are experiencing some stellar sea conditions as we begin a new week of fishing charters in Ft. Lauderdale. Many mornings fishing trips have begun as “pancake flat” with only a very small sea by the afternoons. Conditions such as these cause the deep fished trolled rods to draw the vast majority of bites. An offering far back on the surface will also get it's share of bites, with any species possible but Blackfin Tunas fall for that one more than the other species here now. And there are many species here now. September is not the best month in general for fishing here, but we have had some very good catches in some fine weather so far. The Blaclfin Tunas I mentioned, Kingfish, Bonitos, Barracudas, Wahoo and Sails within two miles of the beach. Some Mahi are there on occasion, but better numbers by far further offshore for at least another month. We have had some nice Amberjacks on live baits on wrecks both shallow and deep, and snappers when the current allows accurate positioning. And lots of Sandbar Sharks from 5 to 7 feet long are on the reefs and on many wrecks (eating off some of our bottom fish). Occasional Bull Sharks in that picture as well. This time of year has chances for rain. We have rain gear if needed and an enclosed A/C cabin if you wish to step inside to dodge some rain or direct sun, as we continue to have plenty of that too. I gathered up some pictures of some of our anglers that have joined us here aboard Marlin My Darlin. Enjoy, and reach me direct to also enjoy fall fishing rates only available directly through me @ **hidden content**.

It was very hot so dress appropriately. There is air conditioning in the cabin to cool off. Sunglasses, water, snacks, a hat that doesn’t fall off when the wind blows, and lots of sunscreen are necessary. We all wore long sleeve sun shirts.

I booked the charter for my 18 yo son and his 5 friends who were in Fort Lauderdale for their senior spring break. They had a blast on the boat. They were so thrilled with how they were treated. Everyone was so nice. They caught their limit of blackfin tuna and had a great dinner that night. Thank you!
