Here, in the Gulf of Mexico, sharks such as Great Whites are rare. However, you can easily find a Hammerhead, Bull, Tiger, Lemon, Atlantic Sharp Nose, Black Tip, or Bonnet shark swimming the warm waters of Fort Myers Beach, especially during the summer season. Don’t worry, you normally won’t find them unless you’re chumming the waters with bait, which is exactly what Luck o’ The Irish Fishing Charters is great at doing! Live shrimp and cut bait have been the top choices, with artificial paddle tails working well for those casting. • Sheepshead: Sheepshead are in abundance around docks, piers, and other structures. These “convict fish” are biting on live shrimp and fiddler crabs. Their numbers will only increase as we head further into winter. • Snapper: Mangrove snapper are holding steady in inshore waters near bridges and rock piles. Small pilchards and shrimp are producing solid results. Nearshore and Offshore Fishing • Goliath Grouper: These giants are providing plenty of excitement near wrecks and reefs.
