Trip Summary

Sometimes you’re marking tons of tuna at a FAD… but they won’t bite. After trying everything, we had one option left. In the final 30 minutes, we caught the perfect-size bonito and dropped it down on the live bait rig to 200 ft. That did the trick — a hungry yellowfin couldn’t resist. We all took turns on the rod, helping each other fight. Teamwork paid off and we landed a solid 50 lb yellowfin just before heading back in!

After picking up a few mahi on live bait near a FAD (Fishing Aggregating Device), we headed back toward the harbor to drop off our guest. On the way in, we switched it up — fast trolling at 10 knots with lures. Suddenly, boom — hookup! A fat 100 lb yellowfin smashed the spread, and Mason was loving every second of the fight. A true trophy fish and a moment to remember.

After a slow start to the morning, we managed to land a solid solo wahoo while trolling offshore. Just as we were about to call it a day, I noticed a strong mark on the fishfinder — thought it might be a marlin… but surprise! We hooked into a 100 lb yellowfin tuna in the last 10 minutes. What a way to end the trip — no complaints here! ?
