Yellowfin tuna, ranging from 7 kg to over 100 kg, are among the most challenging and rewarding sport fish in the Maldives. With tuna fishing gaining popularity, proper preparation is essential for a successful season. To get ready, we carried out three pre-season trips with different angler groups. These trips focused on testing gear, improving team coordination, and building endurance for long fights. Each outing highlighted key challenges: equipment durability, safe handling of large tuna, unpredictable weather, and ensuring team members are physically prepared. For the upcoming season, we are addressing these by gearing up, strengthening crew training, offering client orientation on techniques and stamina, and refining fishing strategies based on tuna migration and sea conditions.
