Just plain fun. It’s simple, relaxing, and brings you back to the basics — a light rod, a jig, and a bobber are really all you need. The bites come often enough to keep things exciting, and there’s something satisfying about watching that bobber dip below the surface. A peaceful way to spend a day and enjoy the outdoors. And to top it off, crappie taste great, too. It’s the kind of fishing that reminds you why you fell in love with it in the first place.

I don’t get many chances to get out on the water by myself, but this trip reminded me just how much I enjoy crappie fishing. There’s something about it that takes you back to simpler times — light rods, a jig, and a bobber can be a real breath of fresh air. I was out for about two hours and caught 14 good-sized crappies. Walleye fishing has slowed. They are still being caught but it is more of a grind. Crappie and Blue Gill are being caught in numbers. Water temperatures has lowered and now is the time to catch a Musky on the Chain.
