Late February Report

We are having wonderful fishing weather as we end our summer! Very calm seas have been kind to us, and our customers. Fishing has been consistent with yellowtail and mutton snapper, king mackerel, bonito, and occasional mahi or shark in the daytime. Night fishing is still excellent for spawning mangrove and yellowtail snapper. For those of you coming our way soon, expect hot days with little or no wind almost daily, and late afternoon showers possible as well. You may bring your own beverages on board, however no glass containers please. Also wearing light weight clothing, hat or other sun protection as well as sunscreen is advised. As we approach springtime, the cold fronts are less frequent as are the following northeastern winds that can make our trips a bit sporty for some anglers! Best advice for folks wanting to come fishing, is to not only check weather forecasts a day or two before your scheduled trip but prepare yourself accordingly. One to three foot seas are usually tolerable for most passengers, but over that may require them to take motion sickness medicine. Most medications are best taken the night before to start with, however follow directions as written on them. Fishing should start to improve with pelagics such as mahi, tuna, and sailfish that coincide with annual migrations of baitfish down our coast. Also with the full moons of March and April come amberjacks on our local wrecks. Of course, this is a day to day "guestimate" as to how the catch will be. Some days the mornings are the best, while others the afternoon bite is awesome! Late afternoons from now through early summer historically is best for blackfin tuna, which respond to trolling, or jigging artificials to drifting live or dead baits. Since the hurricane passed we have been catching all varieties of fish. Daytime anglers have seen muttons, groupers, kings, and mahi-mahi! Sailfish are just starting to pass us on a southern migration. Captain Steve and mate Pedro have been putting our customers on great fish consistently, and getting super reviews in the process! Night fishing has been nothing short of spectacular! Loads of yellowtail, muttons, bluefish, kingfish and mackerel being caught every night. Our night fishing trip is the biggest "secret" in Miami, but Captain Ryan and ace mate Bernie are building their customer base as well as their reputations every night. You will never find a crew more intent on pleasing you. A suggestion to those of you who wish to come on our regular trips or charter one of our boats.
