A colorful dorado provided the highlight of a six-hour offshore charter aboard the 35-foot Riviera Blue Water with Captain Oscar on July 22, 2026.
William from the Tyler, Texas area and Kaci from the Abilene, Texas area headed offshore at 8:00 AM with warm summer water, excellent visibility and manageable seas providing comfortable conditions for the search.
Searching for Dorado While Fishing Offshore from Cabo
Captain Oscar and the crew combined traditional observation with additional tools while searching for productive water.
A professional dredge system was deployed behind Blue Water. The dredge is an underwater attraction device designed to imitate a concentrated school of baitfish and help draw curious predators toward the fishing spread.
Drone technology was also used from above to help identify activity on the water, including concentrations of bait, birds, current changes and other signs that could indicate feeding fish.
That combination eventually helped put Blue Water in position for the day's key opportunity.
One of the trolling rods came alive with a dorado.

Dorado Brings Color and Action to Cabo Waters
The dorado provided exactly the kind of visual offshore encounter that makes the species so memorable.
Once hooked, dorado are capable of fast runs, abrupt directional changes and energetic surface action. Their brilliant colors can become particularly vivid during the fight.
William and Kaci worked through the encounter with guidance from the crew until the fish was successfully brought alongside and boated.
Although the numerical catch was one fish, a fishing day is not defined solely by quantity. Locating the right water, presenting the spread effectively and converting an opportunity into a successful catch are all part of offshore fishing.
On this morning, the work resulted in one quality dorado.
Six Hours of Summer Fishing Around Cabo
The weather added considerably to the experience.
Offshore water temperatures were approximately 84°F, while southwest winds remained around 8–12 mph. A gentle 2–3 foot swell allowed Blue Water to work the offshore grounds comfortably.
Captain Oscar also used the trip as an opportunity to explain how current lines, bait movement and changing conditions influence where the crew concentrates its fishing effort.
For William and Kaci, the six-hour charter combined comfortable summer conditions, an active offshore search and a successful dorado encounter.
The result was a straightforward but memorable July fishing day aboard Blue Water: one dorado caught after a targeted search using the crew's experience, dredge presentation and aerial observation.
