August 4, 2023
Seven anglers left F Dock aboard the 35' Blue Water Riviera at 6:00 AM with eight hours available to work Cabo waters. Rather than producing a catch dominated by only one species, the day finished with three dorado and two skipjack before the scheduled 2:00 PM return.

A Full Cabo Fishing Day Opens More Water
The eight-hour schedule gave the Blue Water time to let the day develop.
That flexibility can matter offshore. Bait moves, currents shift and pelagic fish can travel considerable distances. When the first stretch of water doesn't produce the expected signs, a longer charter allows the crew to continue searching rather than immediately turning toward the marina.
On this trip, persistence produced opportunities with two species.
Three Dorado Bring the Color
Dorado accounted for three of the five fish.
Few summer species are as visually distinctive. Their colors can shift dramatically during the fight, with bright greens, blues and yellows becoming especially vivid as the fish approaches the boat.
The search for dorado often extends beyond simply trolling a familiar route. Birds, weed lines, floating debris, bait concentrations and current edges can all provide useful information.
When the Blue Water encountered dorado, the anglers converted those opportunities into three fish.
Skipjack Add Speed to the Cabo Mix
The remaining two fish were skipjack.
Skipjack fight differently from dorado. Their compact, streamlined bodies are built for sustained speed, and they often pull hard below the surface rather than providing the jumping display associated with dorado.
Blue Sky Cabo releases skipjack.
For the seven anglers, having both species involved created more variety than a single-species outing.
Seven Anglers Settle Into an Eight-Hour Rhythm
Seven lunches were aboard for the charter, an appreciated addition during a full day on the water.
Eight-hour trips naturally involve more than the moments when a fish strikes. There can be periods spent searching new water, changing direction or waiting for the next opportunity.
That pace gives groups time to enjoy being aboard together before the next strike immediately changes the atmosphere.
By 2:00 PM, the Blue Water had completed the full charter and was returning to F Dock.
The day ultimately produced five fish rather than a high-volume bite, but it gave the seven anglers two different offshore species and a complete eight-hour Cabo fishing experience.
