My son and I along with another father and son booked Captain Ray for a morning session hunting the Bonito, and it was one of my favorite charters ever. Capt Ray’s knowledge and experience were on display as we were the only boat to catch Bonito that day, and we landed 6 big one along with some Spanish Mackerel. He knew right where to be and when to be there, and we were hooked up right away on some drag ripping footballs. The light tackle was perfectly balanced for long casting and fighting these mighty fish, and every fight was right at the edge. Capt Ray was great with the 11 year old boys and even the less experienced members of the group felt like pros at the end. An absolute epic day! Will definitely be booking with him again.

My son and I booked a trip with Captain Ray for a 3/4 day trip.  We spoke over the phone the night before to lay out the details.  He let us know that the bonito were in and he was able to put us on them the next morning despite a foggy start.  We also caught nice Spanish mackerel and some blues.  I really appreciated his patience with my son as well as his willingness to explain equipment and techniques.  We will definitely book with Captain Ray again when we are in the area.

Capt. Ray called the night before to talk game plan.  Met at the dock at 7am and headed out.  Capt. Ray is very meticulous with his trips and does not cut corners.
Our plan was to go ocean side and troll for Spanish and we headed that direction.  The wind was a little different than forecasted and on the way to the inlet Capt receives a call from a fellow Capt who said the inlet was a a no go.  Ray switched gears and headed north and immediately put us on Reds.  Ray spent time with my daughter perfecting her top water technique and she quickly caught a red.  We were into smaller reds but had fun with them hitting the top lures.  We moved to another spot and switched to live bait and once again a red at the top end of the slot was in the boat.  A few over slots were caught and released and we headed back to the dock were Ray cleaned our fish and suggested recipes for dinner.
Ray is very professional, knows his stuff and spends time teaching you.

My brother in-law and I decided to book a charter being the first time to Top Sail ever for me personally, he had been here years ago (childhood) and I knew it would be tough fishing due to the scorching heat, hot water temps, heavy winds, and rain that had hit the area hard the past few days. That didn’t stop Captain Ray from busting his tail off and putting us in some of his prime time spots, we were lucky to get the first bite, caught several reds well after getting our limit. Missed by a few inches on a citation bull red. If you are looking for a guide not after your money and is passionate about putting you on fish no matter the conditions then Ray is your guy. Depending on the tides he may call ahead of time and bump your time or push it back in order to give the customers the best opportunity to catch fish. Look forward to future trips with Ray and highly recommend to anyone looking for a charter to book with Captain Ray.
