We trolled for six hours with only two hits. One missed and one small barracuda, but that’s why they call it fishing instead of catching.
The mate spoke English and was happy and fun. The captain didn’t speak English but was very friendly and spent the whole day trying to find fish.
It was a warm calm day with gorgeous blue water and great hospitality. The fish just weren’t biting.

There were 4 of us in the group and 2 of the 4 got sick. Our captain and first mate catered to all of us. Pulling out of the rough sea and back I. To calmer waters helping the 2 people that got sick out and still putting us on fish. We lacked a variety of fish but hammered the barracudas.
The Capt had messaged me about a tropical storm that was going to pass the island with choppy waters and offered to book earlier on the 21st vs the 23rd. We went on the SHERLOCK 2 and both the Capt and 1st mate very very professional. The pit is on 2 small ‘Cudas and a respectable Wahoo within the first 1hr of our trip. The waters were still a bit bumpy for my crew and we ended up ending our trip early. Will definitely book Sherlock 2 again. Salute!
We did a 4 hour private charter today with captain Willie and first mate Louis and had the BEST time!!!! Louis was so welcoming and informative. He was also such a happy joyful soul to be around! We felt very safe and well taken care of from start to finish. The private transportation to and from was a huge plus. We ended up catching 4 mahi, so we were thrilled! Will definitely book with Big Marlin Charters again the next time we’re in the DR!!
Although we didn’t catch anything (I believe sue to the sudden change of weather) Eddie and the captain worked hard to get us on fish. Eddie spoke great English which was a bonus for me and he was super fun and professional. The “gone dog” was more beautiful than the private yacht we rented the day before. They had drinks (to include Barcelo which we were denied on our yacht trip bc of its cost). The equipment they used was top notch. The only recommendation is give is to upgrade the music to allow Bluetooth. That’s not a big deal if ur catching fish, but if ur sulking bc ur not catch fish (lol). Being able to play ur own music would be a bonus. Overall very good experience. I would definitely recommend.
