I was always told “If you have nothing nice to say don’t say anything at all.” In the world of on-line reviews this can present a dilemma. I am the type that does not like to critique others.
When reading the description of the trip I was under the impression we would be with Captain Roy and I felt some sense of confidence that we would be in good hands. I was looking forward to meeting this Captain Roy. Well, we were assigned Captain Pete and First Mate Chip. Both who were very nice and accommodating and I have no doubt they would been happy to meet any need we required however we didn’t require much.
The trip started off fine. We were to do some shrimping first which was great because there was not much at home to eat for dinner that night I was hungry and the kids who were in from Oregon had said they can’t get any fresh seafood there. We drug the net for about an hour and a half and the suspense was building all along.
When it came time to pull the net up Captain Pete and First Mate Chip turned into Forrest Gump and Lt. Dan. I was expecting there to be a license plate, beer can, and toilet seat in the net. We were not that lucky because after getting the net untangled from the propeller the net either came untied or was never tied at the end. This may have explained the spectacular dolphin show while we were fishing for shrimp. The kids did enjoy that. We made another short pass with the shrimp net and managed to catch a few shrimp, fish, squid, crabs and unidentifiable creatures and fish which was also a highlight for the kids.
On to fishing. One can never blame the fishing on anyone else except a friend of mine who always blames everything on everyone else. We did manage to catch four catfish with the remaining 30-40 minutes of our time we had left. I wish all the kids would have caught a fish but that is the way it goes with fishing.
Overall the trip was an experience, I can see some good in the experience. Definitely not an experience that met or exceeded any expectations I had. I don’t think this site does a fair job with the description and always remember you get what you pay for.
