Captain Glenn delivered an amazing trip, despite unseasonably cold weather that made the fish reluctant to bite. Ultimately, we caught 7 Sheepshead/Convict fish that we were able to keep and have for dinner. I enthusiastically recommend Captain Glenn and Inshore Odyssey Fishing!
Captain Glenn was extremely patient and helpful teaching fishing basics to our group (4 adults with some, but very limited experience). He was there to help when we wanted it, but he wasnโt intrusive, giving us all lots of opportunity to get better at casting, detecting nibbles, and landing fish. Captain Glenn did all the hook baiting, equipment set up (selecting the right hook, weight, etc.), removing hooks from fish, and cleaning fish.ย He was very knowledgeable about where to go to find fish, and took us to many different locations to try to find a variety of fish.
The unusually cold weather had dropped water temperature to 58 degrees at the beginning of the day, and there was very little fish activity. Nevertheless, Captain Glenn worked hard to maximize our time on the water by trying out lots of different locations and giving us instruction about where to cast to be most likely to find the fish. By the time our 4 hours were up, the water was just starting to warm up and we had a couple fish in the cooler to take home.
However, instead of calling it a day after 4 hours, Captain Glenn offered to extend our trip so that we could benefit from the slightly warmer water. He made it clear that the trip was not yet up to his standardsโhe seemed more disappointed than we were by the small number of fish we had found so far, and he was also very motivated to find another type of fish for us to catch to broaden our experience. By the end of the trip, we had caught 7 good sized Sheepshead fish along with probably that many Lady fish (which we didnโt keepโthe captain taught is this is a bait fish, not an eating fish).
A couple notes on how to pack: Dress for the weather and in layers. A cold morning is extra cold on the water and when traveling at higher speeds between locations! Pack your own sun-protectionโthere is very little shade afforded by the boat. When applying sunscreen, remember that the sun can reflect back up from the water, so a sun hat does not completely protect your face. Captain Glenn provides water and Gatorade; if you would like additional beverages or snacks you can bring your own. There is one dry-locker on the boat for both the lifejackets and any gear guests bring on to the boat, so pack somewhat lightly. Wear comfortable, and if possible, waterproof shoes as you are likely to be on your feet for nearly the whole time, and landed fish will go right on the deck and occasionally be around your feet.
