First and foremost thank you . Now to say that my family and I were satisfied with today’s trip would be exaggerating. We were looking forward to this trip for weeks and drove all night from Dallas only to drive back tired and exhausted with nothing to show for it or even a great memory all in one day is very upsetting. We have been on plenty of guided trips mainly in Port Aransas, Corpus Christi, Florida and local lakes and we decided to try Galveston since it is closer to home for the first time . So we kind of knew what to expect going in but right off the bat the boat was not ready to go and still needed to be gassed up. Needless to say we didn’t leave until 6:45 after it was understood to arrive at 6 to depart at 6:15. The fishing rods did not have the same setup and we also had a guy with us that never been fishing and was asked to use a popping cork even though he didn’t know what he was doing . We trusted the captain and went along with it. We even purchased 3 more quarts of shrimp only because we felt that 2 quarts would not be enough for 6 people. We started off slow but promising with small sand trouts and a couple of undersized specs then the captain got on the phone and called another contact and said the bulls where running so we went out to the jetties . My first impression was he was to far from the jetties and was casting away from the rocks even though the other boats where at least 20 yards closer and casting towards the rocks and being successful. I observed and kept to myself thinking ok our captain knows what he’s doing . The sister boat was so successful that they asked us if we wanted to sell any of our drum tags!! We politely declined thinking our captain is gonna get us on the reds also . He stayed put in the same location for over two hours with not one single catch. While everyone else that was closer was still landing them . There was times when the captain only had one of the two big reels in the water as opposed to two. I thought to myself how can we maximize our chances of catching anything with only one rod in the water . I hate writing this email and I’m sure he’s a great captain but today felt like he was just not in it . If I wanted to catch hardheads and gafftops I would have purchased a trip on party boat charter for bay fishing . To have to pay $800 to catch the same kind of fish that we would have caught if we paid $40 a person on a bay fishing trip is very disheartening. Yes , I know that nothing is guaranteed but after being miserably unsuccessful and having the captain admit that today was his worst day all year and not even being offered a do over can kill the excitement of any fisherman from ever wanting to go on another guided trip
