Our group of three had a great time with Captain David. We chose a night trip and it was a decision we are glad we made! It was very windy and we decided to stay inshore and try for redfish, catfish, and alligator gar. We didnโt see any redfish or gar, but man did we find the catfish!
It started out slow and difficult with only my dad catching a little croaker to use for bait, but it made his day to catch the first fish.
We moved to another spot but had trouble getting the anchor to set due to the wind and tides, but it finally hooked up with something solid and we started fishing again, though we were far from our desired spot. No luck though.
We moved again and the wind calmed down enough to let us anchor where we wanted to. It was still slow but at 11:40pm we caught our first (and biggest) catfish. It was about 32โ long and weighed just over 9lbs. Within the span of an hour we hooked four more, two which only made it to the side of the boat before throwing the hook. The two others we landed were 8 1/2 lbs and the smallest was 29โ long. The last fish we hooked was around 12:30am. They were amazingly strong fighters too!
Captain David was a great help getting us to the spots to fish and helping with preparing the bait and tackle. He is a very experienced fishing guide but has only been doing private charters for a short time. He did a great job in our opinion and would highly recommend his night trips!
