We booked a five-hour offshore trip and had an AMAZING day on the water. We caught Red Grouper, American Red Snapper, Vermilion Snapper, and Mangrove Snapper — they absolutely put us on the fish! My daughter, Meagan, who had just come home from the Marine Corps, caught her first grouper — and it was the biggest fish of the day!
But what made this trip truly special went far beyond the fish.
We brought my 81-year-old dad with us, and Meagan was able to share this unforgettable experience with her grandfather. At his age and with limited mobility, we know there may not be many more opportunities for him to do something like this. That made this day incredibly important to our family.
Captain Phil and Brian were incredibly patient and took the time to make sure both my dad and Meagan had the best experience possible. They helped my dad safely maneuver into and around the boat, constantly checked to make sure he was comfortable, and made absolutely certain that he had every opportunity to catch fish. They also gave Meagan the guidance and encouragement she needed to land her first grouper.
They never made my dad feel like he was slowing anyone down or that helping him was an inconvenience. They simply took care of him — and made sure he and his granddaughter could create memories they’ll both treasure forever.
Watching my dad catch fish at 81 years old and seeing Meagan land her first grouper, especially after coming home from the Marine Corps, was absolutely priceless.
You can hire a charter captain who knows where the fish are. You can hire someone with a great boat and good equipment. But you can’t manufacture the kind of genuine kindness, patience, and compassion Captain Phil and Brian showed our family.
